They clearly can if producers cared about implementing the social distancing policies designed to save life. Just move Alex from the desk and have Karl and Allison sat at each end. Yes, it looks like they’ve had a magazine worthy fallout at first, but you soon get used to it. All the co-hosted news and magazine shows have managed it here in the UK.
Who cares. It’s far enough.
Agree - I’m sure if they were concerned, they would raise it and make arrangements.
Richard Wilkins very teary this morning.
Brisbane (the coverage was appox 15 min then there was a break of about 40 mins before national coverage started)
In regards to the vacant newsreader role I wonder if Nine have considered the following when Sylvia returns:
Today newsreader: Lara Vella
Today Extra: Sylvia Jeffreys
Weekend Today newsreader: Belinda Russell
Nine News Sydney weather: Natalia Cooper
This way everyone maintains a permanent role and Natalia wouldn’t have to go back to reporting.
on Fridays and Saturdays, of course.
Other than that I think that’s a very good roster.
A shame Tracy had to leave her role, but who could blame her especially with her parents in very poor health back home in Perth?
What about Jayne? The weekend news role is hers.
In 7th & 8th pic (counted across), note the inconsistency between 9HD and 9News Branding.
As great as she is, I don’t think Lara is ready for a permanent presenting position yet.
I agree. She’s a solid fill in.
I still think Belinda Russell should get the weekday role.
The above ladies are better IMO. Jayne is a lovely lady but until she can learn to control her smirk, especially when reading about death and sad news, she should be confined to off air duties.
Jayne is back on the news this morning.
That is nice to put on Today, but making it “Breaking News” is unnecessary. Should’ve used “Special Coverage” at least?
No.
Breaking news (only just) makes sense because it’s just come through, even though it’s a story that is probably best left till the end. Special coverage implies they’re going to cover it for a long time (which is pointless).
Breaking news is for news just in but not relating to events like this. When people see breaking news they expect something big from it. This wouldn’t necessarily be suited to breaking news topics. Maybe they should introduce a banner like “Just In”?
Yes but special coverage wouldn’t work either. That would make the audience think they’re going to extensively cover a colleague’s wife giving birth.
As I said, they shouldn’t brand it anything. Just mention it at the end of the show (9.58am or something) and say congrats.
