Today (2015-Sept 2020)

Really liked Tracy, thought she was a great addition, so disappointing she is unlikely to return. I have switched over to Sunrise - i quite like the Kochie/Nat combo.

What?

In one single post you’ve said Sunrise focus on NSW and then say they show every Premier’s conference. Which one is it?

Is there anything else happening in other cities that is being missed? What other news do you think they are not covering though?

Think he meant mostly all the premier’s conferences in NSW

I don’t think he even knows what he is saying unfortunately.

Perhaps, although I really do think that Nine see Sydney as being the network’s most important market - even if not quite in the same way Seven are reliant on their loyal viewers in Adelaide & Perth.

To some extent, it’s pretty obvious on-screen (even if Sunrise does a decent job at appealing to other markets with a more “national” selection of presenters) that both commercial network breakfast shows are produced in Sydney and have been for a very long time.

Want a genuinely national feeling breakfast show? Then turn over to News Breakfast on LCN-2/20 and 24!

Agreed.

You say that almost as if it’s something which has only been a feature introduced to Sunrise recently, rather than an established “feature” for well over 15 years (closer to 16 now, actually).

Well that’s just because it’s scheduled at 8am every day. The other premiers have their press conference later in the day, so they don’t clash. I’m sure they’re all being covered, but they happen to be outside Today and Sunrise.

I would say the Today Show has improved in the past 18 months. But the show did have a very Sydney feel back in 2016-2018. Its production staff / producers and presenters were all from Sydney, Sunrise developed a mix bag team from around the county.

It was even stated by nine that they underestimated other markets around the country (especially Melbourne where many viewers were lost). Even though Sunrise is based in Sydney, they have invested heavily in Melbourne and around the country.

Well now Today has quite a mixed bag feel which is nice. The generic backdrop and mix of news from across Australia makes it feel general and non-Sydney centric.

I would only consider Clint or Rob. Jonathan is needed more at Nine News Queensland than Today, and Neil Breen as a presenter is awful.

As for Tracy’s departure, very sad to hear since she was a fantastic addition to the show, but totally understandable given the current situation. I think maybe Jayne Azzopardi, (or if she isn’t keen on working weekdays, Lara Vella) would be good newsreaders for Today.

I think Belinda Russell is the most likely after Sylvia returns from maternity leave.

What about Jayne Azzopardi?

Return to her weekend news slot which Lara is covering at the moment.

That’s a good suggestion too.

I think Belinda has improved a lot in the past few years as a newsreader. has a great personality and banters well with other presenters. She’s been a breath of fresh air on Today Extra.

If Belinda moves to Today then Natalia Cooper would slot in nicely as Nine News Sydney’s weekend weather presenter.

Clever move by Tracey.
Don’t be associated with a sinking show. Not a great career move.

What’s wrong with Karl?
Watched this morning and all he seemed to do was make comments throughout every story and chuckle away to himself. His hair looked ungroomed and he looked very uncomfortable either in his suit or on his chair, I couldn’t work out which.

The seriousness of the coronavirus situation?
