Today Show has already got Sunrise reacting by having Michael Pell’s snarky comments in the News Corp papers and moving their team back to 6 January start as well.
The incumbent is concerned.
Competition is good - but let’s keep an eye on ABC Breakfast. They are the big improver in 2019, let’s see if they can continue the momentum in 2020 or whether the Today Show will stymie that.
It’s a promo shoot for sure. Brooke is technically on holidays so the only reason would be to film new promos with the new team. Melbourne is the appropriate location considering they’ll be debuting in Melbourne for the AusOpen (I think???)
His point was not about it occurring but the frequency in which Today has been ‘blown up’ over the last few years
Of course Sunrise was going to have Kochie & Sam be on air on Jan 6. That’s just a common-sense strategic decision - it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re ‘concerned’.
In regards to Pell’s comments, I agree that the first bit (about Nine’s so-called culture) is snarky and (as others have already suggested/pointed out) ignores what’s happened at Seven recently. However, I wouldn’t classify the rest of what his said in that fashion - he was expressing his thoughts about what happened and how he believes his show is different.
It’s such a shame they are moving soon because it means they can’t go all out on a new set on Jan 6 but they NEED to.
So my suggestion is they present from the 9 News Sydney set until they move as it provides enough of a difference from the current to give viewers the feel of a total relaunch.
It’s a cynical attempt to appeal to the parochial Melbourne audience. I’m sure they have a list of all the major Melbourne landmarks the team should be filmed at and they’ve been ticking them off throughout the day.
Is it such a big deal they’re not starting the year all guns blazing with huge launch promos and a new studio? As many have pointed out in this thread, the new group’s chemistry is yet to be determined, and few brand new shows are able to put their best content to air from day one. If you drive it so the majority of your potential audience sample this on day one, and are not impressed, and will not return. What’s wrong with a quieter launch, give them six months to bed in the team, then drive the promotions when they move.
I don’t think they need a new set right away, I agree its a bit problematic but I would suggest that they should present from above couch area, just put a new desk there and fancy up the panels a bit (maybe add some plants). Then use the video wall for other things (where desk is currently) for other segments.
The issue is there are different colors here again for the logo. The yellow on the Ally and Karl image is an off yellow and nowhere near as nice. I’m hoping it’s just a photoshop compression issue. Then we have a orange stand alone logo?
