Jobless like Steve probably.
Love the yellow promo pic. Less one happy family, more smart & informed vibes. Today need to find the right balance between being too fluffy or too boring.
I like the simple, fun, but clean look in that image too. Looks good!
I know itās only a maternity cover but I suggested Belinda Russell for Today Extra. I think she will do a good job.
Despite that, Today is about to go through another ādramaticā change by once again invoking the nuclear optionā¦
Bec Maddern is an interesting choice. Certainly one of the most high profile (if not highest) to be announced. Nine want to be careful not to saturate her across the network, with the tennis and Ninja Warrior plus other stuff she does.
But itās a smart move for Weekend, built an audience and draw people in to a well known and popular face, someone whoās done numerous stints on Sunrise and The Morning Show over the years.
I wonder if she was approached for the main weekday gig? But obviously her Melbourne location, very young family and other network commitments workload wouldāve made that very difficult.
So are Aussie Breakfast presenters not allowed to get their wives pregnant?
The reasonings for axing him last year were ridiculous, so ridiculous heās back a year later. Nine execs were too much in the media bubble which may have been chewing over everything Karl supposedly did or supposedly said and obsessed with his private life, but I suspect the wider public at large couldnāt care less.
We are aware that he couldnāt travel across the country and broadcast from remote destinations week in and week out, which is essential for the weather role (even though they tried to change that this year). But, thereās no reason they couldnāt give him a presenting role on the show next year- hosting weekends, social media segments or even in an entertainment capacity. It is important to remember Nine wanted him in studio this year just as much as Steve wanted to cut down on the weekly travelā¦
Steve is a good talent who thrives when bouncing off people like Karl. Moreover, like Tim Gilbert, he is very popular with viewers, perhaps more than producers realise.
We donāt care what he does in his private life, only if heās a tosser on airā¦
Sunriseās EP Michael Pell made some pretty scathing comments to The Australian about Today having its 3rd line-up in 12 months:
āIām shocked by that cultureĀ of sacking people they have at Nine,āā he said. āThis has been yet another bloodbath.
āItās really disappointing to see good, hardworking people being treated so poorly. Itās not how we do things on this side of the fence.
āConsistency has been the key to everything weāve achieved at Sunrise. We donāt make knee-jerk, emotional changes: the audience feels like they own our show, and in many ways they do. Itās Āreally disrespectful to them to do that ⦠If you look at breakfast shows around the world ā and I do, obsessively ā it never works to blow up a show, least of all three times.ā
In addition to his new role on Weekend Today, Dickie will still pop up on the Today show during the week in 2020.
I dare say Talitha Cummins would beg to differā¦
And all the folks Seven keeps dumping unceremoniously elsewhere in the network.
Canāt say the Channel 7 culture is much better if youāre a contestant on one of their reality showsā¦
I guess TODAY can ask Alex Cullen for some firsthand experience from when he was sacked
Michael canāt control that though, can he? I acknowledge that people on Sunrise have also lost their jobs- Mel Doyle, Talitha Cummins and Fifi Box. No one likes sacking people. But what Pell is talking about are these mass, ruthless sackings that have happened twice in a year! Some for no apparent reason, most without farewells. Viewers donāt tolerate it and Pell suggests that has contributed to their ratings downfall. Sure, it is a timely response but he has a point.
Seven sacked a swag of people in the past couple of months, and more than a few the past couple of years. I havenāt read Pell saying that he is shocked that Seven has a culture of sacking people.
The Summer Crew had fun today
They should have had the new team on for a segment today to introduce themselves after yesterdayās announcement. Or at least Ally and Karl.
And rub it in, to all the people who have lost their jobs?
