Today (2015-Sept 2020)

What do Nine see in her? I find her very annoying and arrogant. She struggles to present a segment by herself. I’ll just have to mute her when she’s on.

Apart from that I’m happy with the line up. I’m glad Tracy is moving back over East though! :grinning:

Agree that new simplified logo and overall look in that supplied graphic looks amazing, love the yellow. Would love a yellow and white colour scheme for 2020, and move away from the heavy orange and blue.

Stevie should’ve been offered Weekend Today, if he wasn’t already, with Richard to contribute to entertainment across all breakfast television and Nine assets.

But isn’t that the same when joining a new company, you’ll only know there’s chemistry after you’ve worked together after some time? Unless of course you’ve discovered something which eluded everyone else ie how to spot chemistry from the get go.

What made you think they didn’t do it?

Brooke staying and Stevie leaving is not going down well on the show’s Facebook page.

The reality here is, success of this team probably won’t be known (either way) until maybe 2022? They have a lot of ground to make up and other than initial interest in Karl’s return I don’t see a real draw card to get viewers to change their habits. It’s a good team but they need 18-24 months to bed in.

I mean really, Karl and Lisa at their BEST was not able to topple Sunrise. There is a long way to go but hopefully will be more competitive which is better for EVERYONE.

So the 2019 team were given less than one year to be a success but the 2020 team will be given up to three years to be a success?

Liking that graphic very USA inspired and simple. They get rid of basically everyone again but keep the least bearable person on the show… Brooke.

Alex Cullen is good, but I find it just a bit strange that he is on the show straight away moving from Seven when Nine had some good talent like James Bracey to fill that spot.

I again don’t see the show going far, they have chopped and changed too much it will take 3 years the earliest before results improve (thats if Nine can keep them on for that long)

Looking forward to see what 2020 holds.

Not sure why she still is there?

Feel really sorry for Stevie - like Tim Gilbert was last year, he’s the innocent victim in Nine’s latest attempt to ‘jump start’ Today and get it competitive again

Yeah, it’s a really odd pairing. They should have kept David Campbell on WT and paired him up with Maddern - reckon they would have been a dynamic duo. As for Dickie, I would have kept him in his current role (hosting Today Extra a few days a week and doing 'big entertainment interviews/features for Today)

This is where Today/Today Extra’s failure to develop/build a solid bench of fill-in presenters over the last few years is coming back to bite them big time.

While Tim is known to those who watch WT, viewers are just starting to get to know Alex while Tracy is virtually unknown to people who aren’t in Perth. As others have said already today, it’s going to (again) take this team time to not only gel with each other but begin to potentially ‘resonate’ with viewers

2019 Today reminds me of Seven Sharp the first year… bad headlines & ratings.
The chemistry between the new lot won’t have to be much for it to be an improvement on this year…

I still remember Tracy Vo from her Nine News Sydney reporting days, although I doubt the rest of this market does since she moved over West some 7-8 years ago now.

But as we saw this year, people might not even be willing to give them a second chance. It’s probably now critical that Nine leaves viewers with a positive first impression with the brand new Today right from the very first show on January 5.

I feel Lara Vella has been snubbed for a permanent position. She is doing an excellent job filling in on weekday Today this summer.

Surprised Brenton Ragless has not been approached for any fill in work or as a possibility for 2020.

No, not at all… what should happen and what does happen are often different things. 9 can either be the 2DayFM of morning tv with a new team every year or give one team a chance to bed in a bit more. They would be hoping for an improvement but if they don’t see a substantial one is not a reason to chuck it all out and start again, again.

One could argue that Today is already the televisual equivalent to 2DayFM Breakfast, at least when it comes to being a rotating door of talent:

2017: Karl & Lisa (post-defection, Deb)
2018: Karl & Georgie
2019: Georgie & Deb with Tom.
2020: Alison & Karl.

By comparison, the last major change to Sunrise’s core presenting team probably would’ve been in 2016 when Sam Mac became their weather presenter although you have to go back to 2013 to find a co-presenter change.

One other point - considering Nine have ‘blown up’ Today’s & Weekend Today’s presenting lineup once again, can’t help but think perhaps they should have gone all the way and start from scratch again. In other words, have the new team announced today present a brand new show with a different format.

After everything that has happened over the past few years, the Today brand has a lot of baggage associated with it. As we’ve witnessed this year, it’s hard to overcome that and I don’t think ‘moving the furniture’ around yet again is the answer to Today’s woes. While the obvious counterargument to this is notion that Karl carries a lot of baggage himself, at least you could argue that him presenting a new show would be a ‘fresh start’ rather than being seen as Today’s so-called ‘saviour’. Additionally, it would have given Nine a golden opportunity to reimagine what a breakfast program should be in 2020 rather than yet again trying to rescue Today

Hosting a concert doesn’t explain why they are fronting a TV show next year.

All the while, the news and sports presenters have not changed since those roles were established in 2003 and 2004 respectively.

And Monique was a reporter/entertainment, weather, then fill in newsreader, then WS host. Matt has been a fill in before getting the hosting role.
James Tobin and Simon Reeve are also long term (even though he left briefly).
Sam was WS host for a few years before the main gig.
Kylie Gillies was WS sports presenter and presenter before moving to TMS.
Larry Emdur was Saturday host in WS’s first year.
All helps maintain the relationship with the audience.
