Bizarre how they can equate such small changes (less than one ratings box) with who is hosting the show. If you look at those numbers provided for last week they’re not very convincing and are WORSE than three weeks ago with the gap between the two shows for the week unchanged from the usual.
They are just flogging a dead horse at this stage.
Let’s be realistic here: Nine are very highly unlikely to ever completely exit the breakfast TV market. Anyone who says otherwise is being overly dramatic to say the least.
But is really surprising that News Corp has a generally anti-Nine agenda these days? It’s not in their interests to gush much praise over any part of a media organisation that now owns their main print rivals in Sydney & Melbourne!
Ben Fordham was probably only talked about positively by news.com.au because he’s also on 2GB which let’s be honest, is basically the Sydney radio equivalent of the News Corp press or Sky News.
The gap is still significant and still greater than last year. You have to remember senior management pubically called out last year’s ratings as unacceptable, despite being 40-60k on average behind Sunrise. But, yes, there is fewer days that they are 100k+ behind in recent months. So, some improvement.
From what I can recall viewing airchecks a while ago, Sunrise News is only a half-hourly 5-minute segment while Today News Perth runs with similar half-hourly updates save for a full 7am half-hour.
They do. Nine owns the rival newspapers.
News always wrote like this about Fairfax, Nine is just the newer, bigger target.
Local editions could work for Today especially in Perth
Ben Fordham will still be on Today next week for his third week filling in for Tom Steinfort.
Also next week interview with Olivia Newton- John.
Now this is why I really like Ben!
Saturday (07.09.2019): Jayne Azzopardi and Tim Davies are co-hosting today, as well as doing the weather. Belinda Russell is reading the news this morning and Tony Jones is presenting sport live from Manchester, UK for the Ashes.
From the Your Domain thread (Your Domain), Am I the only one who thinks this would be a good look for Today set-wise? better than the current backdrop.
But without the houses on it. Only the blue sky backdrop and something else
I don’t mind the houses even…
They’ve had something similar in the past…

The 1989 set was far superior to anything they’ve had in recent times. The soft set used in the second hour during that era was particularly refined and sophisticated.
This one?:
GMA had similar sets too. They were all very ‘homely’- which is missing these days. Liz was great, particularly in that cooking segment, BTW.
GMA’s sets always annoyed me because they never utilised the studio space well and it was always the same basic set up- two chairs and a coffee table. The two main presenters never used a desk.
I think Nine was trying to emulate the homely feel and style of the NBC Today set from the late 1980s with that set.
We never see that disarming side of Liz these days. Her sense of humour, country girl charm and easy rapport with the other talent were great to watch when she was on Today.
Ron Wilson and Sandra Sully did at one point. My point was that both the Today and GMA sets incorporated bookshelves, coffee tables, fake windows and fireplaces that made their sets feel very homely. The current sets at breakfast are very cold in comparision.
Watching back, she is great to watch- effortlessly handles off-the-cuff moments.
