Today (2015-Sept 2020)

Still think Today needs to introduce live local news windows as a point of diff - with a focus on weather and traffic

Today in Sydney
Today in SE Qld
Today in Melbourne etc

At .05 and .25 each hour for 5 mins

Maybe 5 minutes at .05 past hour and 2 mins at .035 past the hour

I think NBN could do it too

“Today in Newcastle” (live)
“Today in Northern NSW” (pre-tape)

Tuesday (03.09.2019): Tony Jones is presenting sport from Manchester, England ahead of the Ashes and Ben Fordham is reading the news. Richard Wilkins is presenting Entertainment.

Have Today reverted back to the previous flag mic’s? Have seen a few white ones with the plain orange today logo wordmark this morning rather than the new ugly logo.

yeah they started their new flag mics when the logies was on

plus, did anyone managed to captured the day & date on the main screen after the 7:00 segments

On this local news “Today in Sydney” etc 5 minute windows at :05 and :35 past in each hour idea I have…/

It’s worth noting that in LA, NYC and Chicago - all three big metro markets - local news on 5 stations In each city out rates national Morning shows on Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, HLN and CNBC between 5am-7am

7-9am where network Morning shows today, GMA and CBS This Morning go head to head with local news on Fox and CW affiliates - the two local morning news shows also out rate the national shows in all 3 cities

Local news dominates at 6 in Australia and at 5pm and 4pm

Not sure why the underdog (today) or anyone else has not tried local news head to head with sunrise as a point of difference

Would be a huge thing to market and actually sell time times

“Local news, weather and traffic and train Info for greater Sydney, “Today in Sydney” - the only local news at breakfast - weekdays at :5 and :35 past each hour - only on Today”

BTW - not for a second suggesting it would be anything like sunrise and wake ups terrible attempts at “local news” which were pre-recorded in a hub studio in Sydney or Melbourne thousands of km away from being local and awkwardly inserted into the show.

These would be live a local - and smooth flowing and hosted from each city with local news set and live morning shot backdrop. Bug would change to “Today in Sydney” and strong emphasis on weather and traffic and train info to get you out the door.

I’d also have today Launch local tickers and weather flippers for each metro market and also NBN / NNSW.

Do you have any links? This article quotes WABC as stating that GMA on WABC won 7:00-9:00am in New York City in 2018.

I just read the article today actually it was very comprehensive. Can’t recall the website. Talked of Chicago la and nyc and the strength of local news in each market

La #1 show was KTLA morning news. Chicago it was WGN local news. Maybe nyc was the odd one out 7-9

And has been for a long time.

I thought that was exactly what Nine did with Today News Perth.

They write those articles like the show only gets 10 viewers. They need to calm down.

Yes, you have wonder. The article says “Ratings for Channel 9’s besieged breakfast show have continued to collapse this year”.

Continued to collapse? I thought they collapsed and just haven’t recovered to levels they were at in the past. Continued to collapse suggests they have collapsed further which is just plain wrong.

The ratings also haven’t improved with Ben filling in. Yes, they are up on early in the year, but they are actually on par with what they have been getting in recent months. No correlation present.

And the opening line of; “Despite big efforts to lure back viewers, Channel 9’s Today is on life support. But there’s a glimmer of hope for its survival in a familiar face.”

The gap between the two programs isn’t that bad anymore from what I’ve noticed. I thought Today gets past the 200,000 mark. Comparing ratings to other competition, they are in a much better position.

Highly emotive language too with this headline.

Who says the show is “endagered” or facing “certain death”? It’s like they have some sort of vendetta against Nine.
