No, Sunrise has taken every single ratings week in 2019
Oh dear. What are your thoughts about Georgie Gardner & Deborah Knight as breakfast TV co-presenters, taking into consideration that they both were (and in the case of Deb, still is) top rating fill-in presenters on Nine News Sydney in the past?
Personally I suspect the biggest problem with Today is the content mix more than anything else.
Itâs just radiates tryhard & boring. Thatâs all it says to me anyway.
Weâre kinda approaching the 6 months mark now so itâll be interesting to see how long they keep their head in the sand. Debs starting to lose on 6pm also which never happens⊠I reckon itâs linked to her presence in the morning
Not any more, so your theory fails the test.
I think Today is getting better and the rapport between hosts is much stronger. But the set and general graphics are not good - Sunrise looks a lot fresher, modern and crisper compared to Today. I think they should keep Georgie and Deb for the new set next year and see what happens then.
It is clearly escalation of commitment- they will be sticking to their guns that it is a marathon. I do find it odd that they have changed nothing yet, despite the downward trend.
I think Sydney is Todayâs best market as they have won a few days against Sunrise this year. However, Today hasnât been number 1 in Sydney for years. @avocadoTV You can correct me if Iâm wrong, but I believe Sydney was one of the first markets to switch over to Sunrise in 2017?
I donât think there is enough evidence to support that yet. I donât monitor 6pm closely, but I have only seen Deb lose one or two nights this year (if you are talking about last Saturday, Mark Burrows was anchoring). But, I donât despute that it could be a long term problem.
Yeah Sydney or Brisbane are the closest.
I donât know when Sydney âswitchedâ Iâm sorry.
As for Deb and 6pm - yes Iâm only talking very recently. But should be watched cause like I said, that would never happen before.
Today Show appeals to middle-aged mums with young children, or just women in general due to their lineup of hosts and the segments they put on. Most of their following on social media seems to reflect on that too.
The show isnât as bad as the media makes it out to be, but I feel like the media is one of the major roadblocks for viewers as people constantly hear negativity about the program, so the chances of flicking over are low.
hows today going against sunrise in Melbourne???
Today promo from this morningâs highlights:
Hmm not the best promo.
What about news?
Is that a YouTube video snippet of Georgie Gardner presenting weather on National Nine News from around 2002 in the âbreakfast TVâs most experienced team of journalistsâ promo during tonightâs news?
Great that they are promoting the show. I agree they arenât the best but better than nothing. Hereâs the promo (interesting that Deb is sitting in front of a Melbourne skyline) from 53:35.

I agree the news-ier team is an advantage that Today has over Sunrise but theyâve picked a pretty rubbish way of marketing it.
Also did they forget about News Breakfast when making such a ridiculous claim?
I think the promo is a little broad- it is okay to do more than 1 promo every 6 months. If you are going to promote their experience show their big interviews and hard-hitting questions (Debâs exclusive with Pauline Hanson), mention the number of years and what events have they covered (Georgie on location for the NSW bushfires last year and mention that Tom has travelled the world). If you are going to promote the familarity factor, dig out vision of Georgie reading the news in 2006 and do a montage. That promo doesnât convince me why I should watch- what does having the most experienced breakfast team mean for me.
Personally, I would be doing profile promos- individual promos for each host. Have Deb, Tom, Stevie and viewers talking about what they love about Georgie, for instance.
Nine News boss Darren Wick has debunked industry speculation that Karl Stefanovic is returning to Today telling The Sunday Telegraph he is definitely not coming back. Annette Sharp also reports rumours that there will be a new set when the program moves to North Sydney, and that Richard Wilkins will apparently be appearing more often on Today with Brooke Boney getting less air time.
To be quite honest, my levels of happiness to any âKarl Stefanovic/Richard Wilkins Leaves Nineâ headline would probably be very similar to those I had when it was announced that both versions of The (Thursday night) Footy Show were axed. HoweverâŠ
âŠthis is one of the very few Annette Sharp rumours that Iâd actually believe.
Surely a major branding re-alignment of the Nine Network (perhaps even the Nine Entertainment Company as a whole) to coincide with the move to North Sydney would be an incredibly smart strategic strategy?
The best kind of strategies.
No surprises really. Richard Wilkinsâ role has already expanded from the start of the year and youâd hope that the 8 year old set doesnât get transferred over. But this was⊠well, interesting:
Meanwhile, Sylvia Jeffreys has spoken out:
