Not in love with any of them but assume 2014-16 is the bottom - looks best of the 3 by far!
Oh yes! The bottom is the 2014-2016
Monday (20.05 2019) - Friday (24.05 2019): Richard Wilkins is presenting Entertainment this week.
There was a new end tag during the 6PM News in Sydney. Not sure the nationwide.
It was basically Georgie, Tom & Deb with a new background
Whatâs with the new hosting structure today. Georgie and Tom doing segments together then throwing to Deb to host something by herself. Seems like the program is trying anything and everything to get the ratings back. No structure!
WTF!! Deb and Georgie are the hosts (and rightfully so), not Tom.
Tom is awful. I gave his 7am news a go today. I swear he messed up his words at least four times in 10 minutes. You would never Nat, Sylvia, GG, Eddy or Deb make do that!! Let him go and replace him with Lara Vella, DC (Deb & GG read the news) or Tim Davies!
I agree DC would be amazing on Today. Heâs really good on Weekend Today
Wednesday 22 May -
Tim Davies is presenting weather from the Sunshine Coast this morning.
A big day of on location crosses today- Tony Jones is in Melbourne at a tennis court (just standing there of course) and Stevie doing Free Fuel Friday in western Sydney. Up in Heron Island, QLD, they are occupying Lara Vella with a live underwater cruise in a âScuberâ. Great that they are getting out of the studio but it would be better to spread them out across the week- most days they have no one outside the studio.
Stevie has been doing in-studio interviews too and Brooke and Dickie do some of the celebrity interviews. Remember, Burling said that it is more about a team effort now in the press release at the start of the year.
It is fine to do things differently to Sunrise but, as you say, it is very inconsistent. Some days it is Deb and Georgie for segments, the next they do all of the segments individually, the next Tom does them with Georgie and the next day Stevie does the tech segment. I am not sure how they can measure which format viewers prefer if it is constantly changing.
Gosh that Tim Davies could get it. Super cute this morning.
What do you mean?
Why do they have to measure it or stick to one format? It keeps it fresh and interesting if they mix it up every day.
Sure, it keeps things different day to day but it isnât the spontaneity viewers want from Today.
People donât like change and watching breakfast television is a part of a routine. They donât mind refreshes but have totally rejected overhauls time and time again. It takes years for their habits to change - thatâs why News Breakfast is finally gaining ground and 10âs breakfast shows were dumped within a year. If you look at Sunrise, theyâve have one major hosting change in 16 years (sacking Mel) and rotated weather presenters a few times. In 2016, when they launched an American format, viewers switched off and didnât return until they undid those changes later that year. The team at Sunrise will never make the same mistake again- as we have seen this week, they wonât even roll out a new graphics package at once.
I am not saying Today shouldnât have a different format to Sunrise. But when you have just changed your hosting duo (again), you need to be selling it- âToday with Georgie and Debâ. Look at 7 News Sydney, they have been pushing Mark Ferguson very hard for years to associate their brand with that anchor following years of instability. By pairing the Today hosts to present segments differently each day, there will be viewers who wonât even know who hosts the show. It will be seen as messy⌠not refreshing.
Monday (27.05.2019) - Tuesday (28.05.2019): Richard Wilkins is still presenting Entertainment.
Are we seeing any improvements/change to the showâs ratings?
Last week they averaged 200.
The week before 190.
Generally 80/90+ behind Sunrise most weeks.
They more often than not run 3rd in Adelaide behind ABC. And sometimes Perth too.
They have had a few more days over 200k recently. Last week, for example, two or three of them were over but then they have a few days every week which fall into the 180ks that drags the average down. Yesterday was over 210k.
@avocadoTV Earlier in the year, Today was third in Melbourne most days. Does that still occur?
Itâs a pain to add it all up cause of the ABC airing across 2 channels. But yes it does still happen sometimes.
But realistically in Adelaide and Perth TODAY are running 3rd most of the time
How has Today been performing against Sunrise in Sydney so far this year? Are they still regularly #1 (as they probably should be, with this market being obsessed with Channel Nine for the most part) or is Seven beating them?
