Today (2015-Sept 2020)

Nat and Sam on Thursday & Friday, and Monday -Wednesday Mark Beretta hosted with Nat.

Thanks. Not saying thatā€™s a factor BTW.

Good to see a rise for Today at least.
I watched it a bit last week and must admit I quite liked Deb and Tom.

Never been a massive fan of Georgie hosting Today tbh.

Yeah, Rob, it is difficult to associate the presenting line-up with a one-off win or loss. Remember, Georgie and Deb were winning in Sydney for the first month or so they were on air. In saying that, Sydney should be the easier city to win for Today and for such swings, it would suggest content is the key determinator.

It was good to have Deb back, though.

Thanks. I am a strong believer in the correlation between a presenter and ratings- you just have to look at 6pm in a lot of markets. However, it is not the sole definer.

In this circumstance, the difference is that Sam and Nat hosting is a long-term plan (whether that is on a Friday or not  ). To imply that Georgieā€™s absence resulted in higher ratings (not saying that is what Robā€™s article suggested) isnā€™t fair when there were so many external factors- school holidays and PH, non-ratings, an OB in Sydney. Sure, if long term data suggested that Deb and Tom were a better pairing (like the data presented when Ben Fordham was filling in for Karl), Iā€™d buy it. However, I doubt that would EVER be the case.

It would be interesting to know if Today is showing any improvement in other states too - Weekend Today didnā€™t have very good numbers in Adelaide yesterday which seems to be a weak spot.

Adelaide and Perth are big problems but MELBOURNE is of concern too. Today was once dominant there but the numbers are really soft now

No Lisa = No Melbourne

What was it about Lisa Wilkinson which attracted Melbournians to Today while she was a co-presenter?

Iā€™d instantly get it if Lisa was originally from Melbourne but sheā€™s actually a native of Campbelltown, South Western Sydney (Today even did an OB there once IIRC).

if a person is originally from melbourne they are loyal to that person take hot seat vs the chase eddie maguire is melbourne so Melbourne watches hot seat, so today is low in numbers esp for melbourne coz theres no one from melbourne co hosting except for tony jones who does sport and hes not that great imo

So how do you explain Sunrise doing better?

Lisa was just popular everywhere I think and her chemistry with Karl

Peter Hitchener was born in Queensland and began his journalism career in Brisbane. How do you explain Hitchenerā€™s longevity as the anchor of Nine News Melbourne if, according to you, Melbourne viewers are only loyal to people who were born in Melbourne?

Thats so contradictive to what you just said, using your theory Melbourne should be watching TODAY because Tony Jones presents in Nine News Melbourne which is #1 hence why they should be ā€œloyalā€

because melbourians have claimed him as one of theres. maybe what i should have said was if not from melbourne then claimed as melbourians

its number 1 because of peter not because of tony

Iā€™m confused. Neither Karl nor Lisa were from Melbourne. Why is it that Melbourne preferred Today, thenā€¦ canā€™t be of any parochialismā€¦

I think Boland said in Brekky Central that Melbourne liked how Lisa stood up and dealt with Karl
