Thanks.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Tipping Point and think it’s a great show, I’m just surprised how quickly it has become Number 1!
Thanks.

Similar to how The Chase Australia became an instant success, outrating Hot Seat nearly every week since it launched in September 2015.
So much so, Nine put an end to Eddie McGuire’s show eight years later, and now the tables have turned with TP now outrating The Chase most nights.
I think the challenge will be keeping it fresh. I think that’s what led to the demise of Hot Seat, that it became too much of the same for too long.
The Chase can at least being in new Chasers to keep viewers interested.
I’m not sure what they can do with a format like this. It’ll be interesting to see if or how Tipping Point evolves.
That’s what I was saying a few months ago. I don’t see this show having the longevity of Hot Seat.
It’s more of a fad seeing the coin drop etc. I think the excitement will wear off much quicker.
Don’t get me wrong, it’ll last a few years or so, certainly not 15.
Why does Nine have to spoil the game? I know it’s for ratings, but like still come on!
Highest rating episode ever of the show yesterday - outrating the 2023 prime time special’s Total TV ratings. The timeslot increase was an incredible 66.6% on the corresponding day last year.
The result was +100k ahead of The Chase.
Although arguably it’s better for viewers to have the 5-7pm block on one channel rather than start on Nine, move it at 6pm for the news then back to Nine at 7pm, although agree they’ll likely air the Olympics at 5pm. (I got my timezones a bit mixed up!)
Attention Melbourne members:
Have you switched to Tipping Point because it’s made in Melbourne or because it’s a new flashy gameshow and The Chase is coming up to 10 years old?
None of the above. I had no idea its made here. Nor that Todd is from here. That discussion over there in that other thread is quite fascinating.
I actually stopped watching it after a couple of weeks, as its so boring being the literal same thing day in, day out. Same with DOND for that matter.
It’s a wonder then that the Melbourne promos don’t have ‘Made in Melbourne’ splashed across it… they seem to like that kind of thing down there… I think I recall the ‘A Current Affair’ promos on GTV used to have ‘Made in Melbourne’ splashed across it too when Tracy Grimshaw was hosting it.
But up here you never see ‘Made in Sydney’ on any promos for any shows on any network.
Will be interesting to see Tipping Point’s longevity.
I always struggle with the “longevity” comments about TP.
The UK variant has been airing here for over 4 years and is still strong in its afternoon slot.
TPA has been on air for almost 5 months and is hitting records in recent weeks - fair to assume it will be a heated battle between Seven and Nine at 5pm for a long while.
I watched part of an episode last week. Apart from Todd (who was actually fairly decent), did not see the appeal at all. Next night went back to The Chase.
I think the novelty will wear off after a few months, and people will start heading back to Seven (especially in Adelaide and Perth).
Ratings trajectory is definitely upwards - more people are watch each day. Seems to be more than a seasonal thing because The Chase numbers are trending lower.
Remembering that the main reason for these shows is their value as a lead in to the news - a look at what is happening there; Nine is definitely getting a major boost with wins in the 5-city market.
On last nights episode Todd offered the contestant 1 counter for $40,000 when the jackpot counter was still on the top shelf. How stupid
I think before that, Todd asked the contestant how many counters he think he’d need, and he said ‘One’… I don’t know that Todd realised he was surely joking.
He didn’t used to be, Woodbridge is from Sydney, AFAIK re-located to Melbourne after Woodforde (then himself after 2005) retired. Lives in a lavish mansion in Brighton.
The contestant said they’d need 3 actually
Just had some thoughts on Tipping Point UK, so hope it’s OK to share them here
I reckon one of things that made the UK version a big success at 3pm, causing Nine to commission the Australian version, was the fact it aired during lockdown. Obviously it meant there were a lot more people at home sampling around for something to watch. I remember The Chase UK didn’t really get a huge bump during the 2020 lockdown.
Also, after Seven axed The Daily Edition, they were showing double episodes of The Chase UK as a cheap filler, which combined with The Chase Australia at 5, caused viewer fatigue.
Also, the first time I saw Tipping Point UK in full (along with Pointless at 2pm), along with I’m sure others, was while Seven’s regular lineup was out during the 2021 Olympics and Paralympics. People not interested in sports went sampling around, and liked what they saw and didn’t go back. Now I’m not suggesting that Seven should’ve switched the Olympics/Paralympics to 7two at 3pm for a British game show, but we do see during summer that the network not broadcasting sport at 5pm does a bit of a boost, bumping up their 6pm news.
Plus, Tipping Point UK is a good show IMO. Ignoring the game’s format, Ben is very likeable.
I don’t Nine would ever have expected it to have caught on at 3pm as much as it did/continues to do.
Now whilst people have obviously returned to the workplace over the last 2.5 years, they have told other people about it, who are more likely to be at home at that time, which is causing them to sample it. I for one got my 83 year old grandmother watching it, and she was always a big fan of The Chase UK.
