It’s one hour in the schedule. 7pm start with Carols at 8pm.
I think the TV Blackbox article incorrectly states the Carols start at 7:30pm, maybe why.
I have not watched this show (UK version) in a while but flicked it on this afternoon. There is a very annoying watermark advertising the Australian version, that is blocking some of the question answers.
When being prepared for playout ingestion, they’re meant to carefully check these things, so the watermarks/graphic animations can be timed to start earlier/later/shorter as to not disrupt core program content. I’ve seen Seven do this usually well (e.g.) PRGs
All of the commercial broadcasters are bad for these intrusive watermarks covering up this sort of thing nowadays, I doubt anyone is actually checking or removing them when instances like this occur.
There is just no need for them - the audience sees them if they pop up for 15-20 seconds after the break, they don’t need to be constantly reminded.
Presumably Nine inserts extra ad breaks into the UK airings - it’s pretty much designed for the UK structure of a show being split into four parts by having four rounds and a break between each. I guess it plays in 5 or 6 parts on Aussie TV? Unlike The Chase it’s not so obvious when the extra breaks could be taken.
Wherein a one-hour show in Australia typically has six segments (i.e. five breaks), they could split the first round across two segments, with Todd saying after the first six questions something to the effect of: “round one continues after the break”, and in the final round he could say, after the third topic, “the final round continues after the break”, with the preview to the 6pm news being before the contestant decides to take the trade.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see until Sunday, though the premiere episode won’t have the 6:00pm news preview as it will when it properly launches after the tennis.
EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEEK AT AUSTRALIA’S NEWEST GAME SHOW
TIPPING POINT WITH TODD WOODBRIDGE
CHRISTMAS EVE AT 7.00PM ON CHANNEL AND 9NOW
Catch an exclusive sneak-peek episode of Australia’s newest game show, Tipping Point, this Christmas Eve at 7.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now, followed by Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight.
Tennis legend Todd Woodbridge takes on a new challenge as host of Australia’s rendition of the famous game that pushes contestants’ luck to the very edge.
The original UK format has taken the country by storm, and in 2024 Australia finally has its own version of the show that will test the wit and wisdom of contestants as they take on the mesmerising Tipping Point machine – only the second one ever made anywhere in the world.
Just like our UK counterpart, our Aussie game format comprises four rounds, but it has a few surprises along the way.
The first two rounds are all about banking as much money as possible, with the goal to win counters to play in the Tipping Point machine.
At the end of Round 2, the contestant with the least amount of money will be eliminated and the remaining two contestants will go head-to-head, again trying to bank the most amount of money to avoid elimination.
One lucky contestant will then make it to the final Jackpot round to play for $20,000. But we’ve added a twist. Todd’s secret Jackpot Temptation. Will Todd be able to tempt the contestants or will they play it safe?
Tune in on Christmas Eve at 7.00pm for an exclusive preview episode and see if the contestants can outplay the Tipping Point machine.
One would think I know the answer to this…
but what does the word exclusive mean in the context of the headline?
Isn’t every episode of Tipping Point exclusive to Nine Entertainment Co?
I may have overthought this
All the promos and promotional watermarks I’ve seen (mainly during the day) are promoting it for 2024, with no mention of the Christmas Eve sneak peek.
You would’ve thought they would be promoting (especially in the UK version during the day)
I do wonder how long 9 will have to stick with airing 5 new episodes per week.
The Chase and Hot Seat had the financial advantage of having so many episodes in the archive that they could get away with airing repeats on Thursday and Friday.
It’s a good question. From a quick look at The Chase thread (and someone more knowledgeable can jump in and correct me if I’m wrong), Seven aired full weeks of new episodes following the swap to Larry as host for around a month before repeats began airing on Fridays.
You would expect that Nine would look to air new episodes for a longer period given it is a new show to try and make an impact on ratings. But the other part of it is going to be how many episodes do they have ready to air.
Seven was forced to air repeats of Larry Emdur The Chase after a month due to Covid interrupting the filming schedule.
9 already have over 100 episodes of Tipping Point ready to go with production continuing in Feb.
That is true and likely coupled with the desire to burn through the remaining AOK episodes as quickly as they could.
If we assume that Tipping Point will air after the AO concludes, based on that number they could air new episodes through to the Olympics. They won’t though, as the French Open, Wimbledon, and the Olympics will put a pause on production. A complete guess might be three months of new episodes, then start with Friday repeats to get to the Olympics.
Could Woodbridge send apologies to a Grand Slam once every now and again? I mean, in his home market, Tipping Point is a pretty major deal for him and his network now and no doubt significant contractual/salary wise too.
WWOS have other very capable commentators in their ranks to occasionally send instead.
I realise that this is a rather rudimentary way of looking at it though, not knowing the contracts (if any) nor Todd’s relationships with the respective Grand Slams/broadcast teams.
I’m sure if Eddie could find time to do a million things, Todd will be able to do likewise.
I do get that Tipping Point may be important to both Todd and the network, but we are talking about the major tournaments of tennis and Todd is one of the faces of the team. That is ultimately what Nine hired him to do, and Tipping Point is an added extra.
There is still plenty of time in the year to film during the downtime in the tennis.
Yes, but:
An addition? Yes. “Extra”? I definitely would not call it that, it’s a major network (game) show, replacing a staple predecessor, which is designed to see ratings increase and flow-on to Nine News. Wide implications and I’d be a bit nervous if I were Todd (not suggesting for a moment Nine would treat him like this but just throwing it out there as we’ve seen similar happen) with a lot of pressure on him/the show to now perform, at a bare minimum at least, initially, hold Hot Seat’s audience or the levels it was last at.
