The Weakest Link

Comedienne is an accepted term for “female comedian”!

Ah, ok.

It’s a very dated gendered word, though.

Saw this on Facebook:

The Australian always desperate to find any angle to try and own the left. The level of patheticness of their bizarre agenda knows no bounds.

Reading their headlines is like living in some sort of parellel world. No awareness at all.

So much hate on Facebook on the Channel 9 post about Magda being the host

What else is new? In this overly PC era, a lot of people are easily offended.

I’m not a fan of the US reboot presentation and set. Wouldn’t have mind seeing a modernised version of the classic UK set.

Weakest Link with Magda Szubanski is here

PREMIERE TUESDAY, MAY 25, AT 9.00PM ON CHANNEL 9 AND 9NOW

The highly anticipated return of television’s most cut-throat quiz show, Weakest Link , is here.

Comedian and actress Magda Szubanski will host the all-new, supercharged version of the smash-hit quiz when it premieres Tuesday at 9.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

More than 20 years after its television debut, Weakest Link has been reimagined for a new generation.

Quizmaster Magda will put contestants through their paces as they compete, backstab and embarrass themselves in hope of winning a huge cash jackpot of up to $250,000.

And along the way we’ll find out if Australia is a nation of know-it-alls or utter nincompoops

On the eve of her quiz show debut, Magda said: “They say never work with animals or children, but no one ever mentioned quiz show contestants! My patience will be pushed to its limits each week as I try my best to give eight players a chance at winning a remarkable $250,000. Yet at every turn they do their best to let themselves down. Weakest Link will have you playing along, shouting at the television, and recognising me for the tolerant, forgiving host that I always knew I would be.”

In each episode, eight contestants enter the studio as total strangers and must work together to bank the maximum amount of prizemoney available. Contestants take turns to answer general knowledge questions and build chains of correct answers. Consecutive correct answers greatly increase the value of the chain, while incorrect answers break the chain and force the contestants to start over on the lowest rung, with the smallest amount money.

At the end of each round, contestants vote to eliminate the one they consider to be the weakest link in the chain. The one who receives the highest number of votes then leaves the game as Magda delivers the killer phrase, “You are the Weakest Link. Goodbye!”

Weakest Link has been produced in 46 territories around the world. More than 1500 episodes have gone to air in the UK alone. The program was recently revived in America, hosted by actress Jane Lynch ( Glee ) to huge success. This new series is being produced for Nine by BBC Studios and marks a return to Australian screens for the popular quiz that was last shown in Australia in 2002.

The good 'ol ambiguous “after so and so”, leaving the actual start time anyone’s guess…

Magda explains the concept. Doesn’t look like a good advertisement for the show to me. The promos so far have left a lot to be desired.

I wasn’t convinced Magda was the right person to host the show when she was announced and I’m even more convinced of it after watching the clip TV Cynic linked to. Instead of letting her be herself, it seems like Nine wants Magda to be overly serious in an exaggerated way

Yeah she’s trying too hard to be savage but it comes off as very fake and insincere, judging by what I’ve seen in the promos.

The likes of Lee Lin Chin and Tom Gleeson would be much more fitting in this Role since they seem to be able to be savage without forcing it. The master of nastiness in Australia is still the late Cornelia Frances. Hopefully Nine will let Magda loosen up a bit in the actual show.
