Almost seemed like Delta would never go on Seven (except for that time she appeared on the Olivia telemovie) and that she’s firmly a Nine personality.
I think this was inevitable - considering Delta’s been on the show for 9 years it was probably time for new blood especially if Seven are planning a revamp.
Also makes sense that she’s staying with Nine - it seems like she has a great relationship having spent nearly a decade with the network
This most likely means she won’t be on Australian Idol either - I know Guy has already stated that he wouldn’t want to judge Aus Idol (so he’ll stick with The a Voice) but there were some whisperings before that Guy and Delta were being considered for that
Who is -Lee?
Oops! That was meant to be Ricki-Lee, I’ve just updated it.
I believe it was TV Blackbox which had the exclusive - both have apparently already signed up for it a couple months ago. Add Guy onto the list, especially since his brother Chris said in an interview last week that he’s 98% certain Guy’s coming back as a coach.
We all thought Seven would announce the coaching line-up during their upfronts - my guess is they’re still waiting to sign up 1 ‘international superstar’ to bring more ‘credibility’ to the show.
Rumours are it’s Mariah Carey but nothing’s been confirmed.
Actually I think they said they had that wrong and Ricki Lee is actually going to be on Australian Idol and not the Voice.
As a Delta fan myself I am disappointed she is staying with Nine. It robs her of opportunities to appear on other network’s shows (e.g. Celebrity Mastermind on SBS).
It must have been a painful decision for her to leave The Voice franchise altogether given she had been on it for nine years.
I was not happy when Delta first signed up to The Voice in late 2011 so I didn’t start watching the show until after The X Factor was axed in 2016, because it left The Voice as the only singing competition on Australian TV.
I’m quite interested to see what she’ll bring to the table with her production company - will she be solely producing entertainment shows (behind the scenes) or would she be on-camera too?
I think her role would still allow her to appear on other networks - it seems like as a coach on The Voice she wasn’t allowed to appear on Sunrise/Seven shows but if she has more of a partnership with Nine I’m sure she’d be allowed to explore other projects too
So are you a fan, or not?
I am a big fan of Delta but I am one of very few who doesn’t always agree with her TV work.
During her tenure on The Voice she only appeared on other networks three times: Neighbours 30th anniversary episodes on 2015, Who Do You Think You Are? in 2016 and the Olivia Newton-John mini-series in 2018.
She has kinda gotten to the point where she makes more money off TV than her music.
Yeah and I also think it’s difficult for any Aussie muso (except the likes of Tones & I, 5SOS, Sia, etc who do humungous streaming numbers) to be earning in the millions anymore without touring.
The Voice gave her the opportunity to earn bucketloads of money without constantly touring - I think her last tour was in 2016 whereas you see artists like Amy Shark and even Guy do a national tour practically every year.
Agree but also think Delta is a bigger name and generally tours on the back of an album release. Which once upon a time was the point of touring.
There’s no money to be made from listening/streaming anymore, it’s all through touring and merchandising.
Smart move from Delta and her management to align with Nine and leverage her brand that way.
Delta appearing on sunrise this morning.
And The Project last night… She has an album out.
And Today and the Morning Show.
And Studio 10 and even News Breakfast.
Why is this relevant? She announced she’s no longer going to be a coach…?
Because it’s the legendary Delta, coach of 9 seasons.
