I’m not sure why Seven thought he is still remotely relevant in this day and age. Haven’t heard a hit from him since ‘Right Here Waiting’ which was 36 years ago. It’s like having had Chris Isaak on The X Factor in 2015. Last relevant since the Stone Age.
He’s still very active in the music scene in writing and producing etc and still well known… and you are never going to be able to get the biggest name artists due to $$$ and they have bigger fish to fry with touring, releasing new music etc.
According to advance schedule posted by TV Cynic, blind auditions will not be shown on Sunday August 24, due to the Lions-Hawks match.
During the blind editions, they now have the words “4 chair turn” pop up on the screen behind the singer. That adds nothing to the show.

Ronan: “I’m a fan of your voice. You’ve got a gorgeous tone in your voice, I love it. I don’t know what to do here. This is crazy because I feel, you know, if you go anywhere else, I’m going to be so hurt.”

Kate: “That cover version to me sounds like a radio single. Sounds like a hit.”
TV Blackbox understands that, until now, industry whispers suggested ITV Studios Australia had not yet booked crew for another season, casting doubt on whether the show would return next year.
Ratings, especially the last ep (albeit against the MasterChef grand final as well as The Block) aren’t setting the world on fire so far and it’d be super expensive to make.
But it’s still probably one of Seven’s better performing and reliable tentpole shows and no doubt does better in the key demos for advertisers than DWTS for example including the celebrity judge cross-promotion and other commercial opportunities.
They also wouldn’t want to risk dumping it, only for Nine to pick it up again or 10 and for it to have a resurgence again and rate through the roof.
I don’t think Seven will be axing any shows unless they have decent replacements. We’ve seen what happens when they axed House Rules and then tried to create a new similar show Dream House. It flopped. New reality show Stranded on Honeymoon Island was an even bigger flop.
The Voice has been doing well with 7+ live streaming. Averaging around 100k. The issue for 7 is that last season & the season before they were close to The Block during the blind auditions which are always the highest rated episodes. This season hasn’t been too bad but Block has increased A LOT. So it’s not competing like previous seasons
I can think of another thread this applies to but change the channel name ![]()
Coming up next week
Sunday 17 August
As we approach the halfway mark of the Blinds, these artists will show they aren’t afraid to take risks in order to chase their dreams and secure a spot on one of our superstar coaches’ teams.
Monday 18 August
A fresh batch of undiscovered artists step into the spotlight for their Blind Auditions. Will they be ready for the pressure and expectation that comes with performing on The Voice stage?
Tuesday 19 August
It’s over halfway through the Blind Auditions and the competition between our superstar coaches has hit an all new level. To secure these incredible artists, they’ll pull out all the stops.
Having two Singing shows "The Voice’ and ‘Australian Idol’ might not be warranted.
I would differently be keeping DWTS over the Voice.
10 was gutted when it initially lost to Nine for the local rights (which led to a series of events culminating in 10 going into administration). However, I doubt 10 will be keen on getting The Voice now, seeing how expensive it is to produce and with little success on the ARIA charts for the winners.
Tbh 10 have the ARIAs now, and hey, they’ll need something to replace Survivor if it sinks
The cost might put them off given they don’t get the same number of viewers that Seven or Nine can but the chart success of the winners means nothing these days.
Has any winner from The Voice around the world had chart success? Even the winners ftom the Idol franchise hardly ever do.
Certainly none that I can think of. They tend to do OK just after then fade back into obscurity. Morgan Wallen (not a winner) is probably the biggest name to come from The Voice in the US.
In the modern era it is definitely the case. Idol did have a good track record in the 2000s of finding and producing talent, but with social media and particularly YouTube, it became so much easier for young musicians to make a name for themselves without entering TV talent competitions.
.. as did The X Factor and AGT back in the day..
