The Voice

According to the preview shown at the end of Sunday’s blind auditions episode, one of the judges apparently sent a contestant home during the battles and then regretted it, which led to that judge to go out to the backstage to talk to the EP in an attempt to reverse the decision. Had it happened before in other versions of The Voice?

Sounds manufactured to me. Do the judges REALLY care that much?

They aren’t even showing some of the battles in full, heavily edited and cut. Meanwhile there’s so much recap, filler and manufactured drama in between songs…

Especially near the end of the episode when Jaydin lost his battle against Roland, but all four judges pressed the Save button and pleaded their case to Jaydin. He chose to stay in Team Guy. This part took too long.

The two battles that were edited need to be shown in full.

The preview for next week shows Yorke in a sing off against Jenna, before he proposed to Jenna on stage.

The only way to address the issue identified in that article is to extend the post-blind audition period to have weekly performances. The problem with that though is viewers not being invested in the contestants after the blind auditions is why Seven condensed the season when they took over the show.

The format is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The first 3 or 4 couples in the Battles tonight was sooooo drawn out, but then they super rush through the next 3 or 4 so far in tonight’s show. Still another 40 minutes to go. Can’t they spend the same amount of air time for each competing in the battles?

They also reveal so much during the ads. Like who is competing against who. And who proposes to who. Etc.

This is really frustrating I don’t understand at all. Unless the ones they rush are the ones that get eliminated in the next round, so they are giving more time to people who will go through to the finals? (since it’s all pre-recorded months ago)

That is my thinking too - perhaps being eliminated next. But kind of stuffs the “surprise” for upcoming shows. And just feels annoying and also frustrating.

Is it maybe time to rest The Voice and bring back the X Factor brand?

No. The X Factor is too close to Australian Idol as a concept. Hasn’t The X Factor pretty much ended everywhere in the world?

And the final battle of the night (Letitia v Duncan) got three segments when it only needed one. They rushed through three battles in the middle just for this.

I think all eight battles deserve equal amount of air time, and not drawn out across an ad break (in some cases).

I agree that the final battle didn’t need three segments. Was two too many.

Each battle should be one segment each max.
See what songs the “coaches” (aka producers) choose, then they sing the song to the audience, then the judges pick the winner. No need to see who they choose after the break, with another recap once they return from the break.

Especially when that comes at the expense of other Battle’s not shown in full. Very unfair.

That was obviously going to happen since his Afterpay ad plays in every break in every episode

There were two surprises in tonight’s final battles episode.

First was LeAnn walking off the stage to chat with the producers after unable to decide the winner of the battle between Tori and Brad. LeAnn later returned and suggested that Tori and Brad competing as a duo, and they agreed.

Second was right at the end of the episode after the top 7 artists for each team gathered on stage. Matthew Hearne from Team Kate announced that he accepted the offer of a role in a musical, so decided to withdraw from the competition. Turns out he played Osric in the Australian production of The Grinning Man which was held at Alex Theatre in St Kilda in Melbourne from April 25 to May 19. The Voice battles were shot in March 17 to 19.

Next Sunday: The Voice Knockouts begin. Each coach will have the tough task to trim down their teams from seven to two.

According to online guides, it will be Team Kate and Team Adam next Sunday. Team LeAnn and Team Guy follow the week after.

I’m watching reruns. So much manufactured drama.
