August it is.
When we heard Gretel speak in the trailer it didn’t seem like she was playing a character as some feared. But then again Rhys Nicholson made a comment about her being more camp than him so it’s inconclusive. ![]()

Very strong trailer. Better than I was expecting and does make me excited for the show.
Although it is obvious 10 cast this before the blockbuster success of Celebrity Traitors UK.
Hopefully the next Aussie season they can go after some big name stars
I thought the promo was a bit underwhelming but I guess the show is still ages away, so there will be plenty more to come. What did stand out was that Gamble and Krissy (from housewives) look like they will be entertaining.
To me it seems very much like she is playing up to a similar type role of Alan Cumming on the US version. The way she is dressing seems very dark, obscure and over the top.
The casting is in line with the US format (mostly ex-reality contestants). They will never get a cast of big name stars for a reality show here. No matter who they put on (like with every “celeb” show here) people will whinge that they aren’t celebs. So I’m glad they’ve gone with the reality angle.
Here would be my dream cast members for an Aussie Traitors that I think are actually realistic.
Annabel Crabb
Liz Ellis
Virginia Gay
Janine Allis
Claudia Karvan
Julia Zemiro
Noni Hazlehurst
Todd McKenney
Waleed Aly
Tim Minchin
Guy Montgomery
Gillian Cosgriff
Rebecca Gibney
Add Julia Morris to the list, she will be looking for a gig
I’m biased, given the network pays my bills, but I am excited for it for what I’ve seen.
Although I do think we’ve left it a little too late, and that could hurt us with an August start.
Does masterchef run until August? It’s a loooong season if we are waiting for traitors.
I guess yes ![]()
Last season MasterChef went back up to 60 episodes (like earlier years) after a couple of shorter seasons. Now with it airing 4 days a week (it used to air 5 when seasons were this long), that stretches it out by an extra 2-3 weeks.
Assuming it runs for a similar length this year, it should finish in the last week of July or the very start of August. So when they say August, they’re likely referring to early August.
It’s clear that Gretel is in her element playing a part with costumes for each challenge much like the US.
There is at least one challenge shown that looks similar to NZ which isn’t a surprise. A difference appears to be that the vehicles are different perhaps related to sponsorship.
That’s your cast for a celebrity version. 10 haven’t committed to that. This is in line with the US. They go for reality stars because they have already been trained to narrate. For a short turnaround this is important.
Do we know if 10 are doing the same as Canada and producing 2 edits of each episodes, a 45 min version for linear TV with ads, and a 60 min extended version for streaming and for the BBC (who don’t have ads)?
Also will 10 do an aftershow like the UK and US have 𝙐𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙙 and 𝙋𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙢?
Australian reality shows seem to be happy to go way past the 45min in a 1 hr slot so I doubt they would do two versions.
I’ve been a bit tuned out of 10, so assumed it was imminent judging by the 10 app. Can’t believe it’s launching all the way in August…
10’s biggest problem with these long campaigns is eventually I just start to become blind to it. Watermarks and ad spots and cross promo with a call-to-action that is essentially….hope you remember to watch in 2+ months!
Is this just meant to hype up potential advertisers?
It is ridiculous.
Have watched the first couple of NZ episodes and so far it’s not matching up to their previous series both in terms of gameplay and production. The last NZ series was noticeably an improved production on the first but this feels a step back. Whilst it’s pretty standard with The Traitors that they build sets within the rooms rather than just use the room it’s very obvious here with the breakfast room and roundtable room - both feel very flat in design.
I have seen some commentary from Traitors fans who watch every English speaking version saying that the NZ Season 3 has felt low budget and a bit boring so far.
Do we know which was filmed first, NZ or AU? Hoping it was NZ first, almost as a test run that they used to make improvements for the AU shoot.
Watched both episodes of Season 3 NZ Traitors and it is good, mainly because Paul Henry is not compère anymore! I dislike him intensely. Madeleine Sami is much better but I do worry she’s going to break into her Deadloch swearing any minute. ![]()
Unfortunately it has worked before. 10 can only go off the success they have had with it. I’m a celebrity saw huge launches with 3 months of teasers following melbourne cup day.
Have now watched NZ first 3 episodes and really does not even come close to the quality of the UK or Canadian versions, or the previous NZ season.
NZ episode 3 in particular was a mess, not sure if it’s weak production/editing or this cast are just annoying and uninteresting.
Hope AU is much better than this.
Have seen the promo for the Australian version so many times that I’m sick of it already. They eithrr need another one and/or stop playing it so often.
