The Traitors

I doubt 10play will air it but I hope they do

The US version also starts next week - if it’s officially rested rather than axed I think seeing how the UK and US version does locally on 10Play or Paramount+ would be a good way to see if it’s worth another shot.

The UK version has now hit episode 3 with a major cliffhanger and the first tie in a UK edition (we’ve seen them in others). What they’ve also revealed is how a tie is broken when a tie cnanot be broken - basically a random elimination, but seems it’s between those tied rather than everyone else like the purple rock in Survivor.

I just watched the first episode of the new US season. Everything about the US season is just so good. I wish our Aussie version filmed at this location. So much better than our Aus version on all fronts (casting, editing, production, host, challenges etc) and it even felt like they’ve amped it up from the first US season too.

They have tweaked a few things in the game too that that really takes it to another level, including how the Traitors are recruited at the get go plus also having shields at challenges (which is a new level of strategy). Then in the promo for the season it looks like at some point there will be an intruder join the game.

The Scottish castle is a perfect location.

We’re half way through the second UK series now and I’ve just watched the first three episodes of the US version (though after that they’re only releasing one a week). The UK version has certainly stepped up from the first, and the US one has got off to a promising start too - though as a BBUS viewer a bit annoyed they went with such an obvious choice for the traitor. The second though is superb - the Housewives franchise may be trash but they do provide some great characters.

The Shield format kind of goes back to the way the Aussies did it in their first series, though without the protection for banishment. I do prefer it being won in challenges rather than just a random pick, but I do think the holder should have the option to use it to protect themselves from banishment instead of murder if they should choose as that would add another level of gameplay and suspicion.

The Aussie version mostly had seperate challenges to win a shield. In the first US episode it was incorporated into the challenge, so people were essentially wasting the teams time to go for a Shield. I’m not sure if it will always be like that but I like that concept a lot better.

Also regarding the shields protection of murder vs banishment, I guess the thinking is that with banishment you have some level of control around saving yourself (as it’s a strategic decision involving yourself) but with a murder you have absolutely no say and the Traitors can kill anyone. So that’s where I like giving the opportunity to save yourself from murder.

I noticed that The Traitors was the #1 trending topic in the US on twitter (X) today and multiple contestant’s names were in the top 10 as well. I’m not sure how relevant trending topics on twitter are anymore but still a sign of how well the show is doing overseas. A real shame that our version never replicated that sort of success or attention.

The US version up 75% on last year for it’s first three episodes according to Peacock. The UK version now up about 50% on the first series too - initially was around the 3m mark this series but grew to 4m on Wednesday and 4.4m on Thursday. The spin off now outrates Love Island.

Have to wonder if getting in first actually hurt the Aussie version - did it need the overseas hype to actually bring an audience to the local version, although of course that did nothing to help build an audience for the second.

I think the local version was up against it, poor marketing strategy and at a time of year 10 have really struggled to launch any new formats. Also probably felt a bit more like a 8:30pm show too.

It is sooo good!! I’ve just caught up on the first 4 episodes and it is seriously amazing. I can’t fault anything about this season. The new elements and casting has all just been superb. It’s also a different vibe having a reality show with a more older skewing cast too (as opposed to typical 20 something casts).

I think the bulk of the cast are 35+ … the only 20s are the Love Islanders (Burgy & Ekin-Su)

I love both the current US & UK shows … but I think I prefer the UK version. It is fun seeing these reality all-stars play the US version (especially some of my favourite reality legends), but the UK version feels more real (for lack of a better term) - real people playing real intense game for serious money, even the way it’s filmed and presented feels as if we are a fly on the wall.

I preferred the 50/50 split the US had last year. What looks like it could potentially hurt this series is the cast seem to be dividing into alliances based on their past (“housewives” vs “gamers”) rather than based on the game they’re playing now.

Where are you watching this? Probably my favourite reality show at present and I’d love to watch it. Are people using VPN’s or is it streaming somewhere?

My partner has been downloading it. Might end up on 10Play or Paramount+ or somewhere down the line but likely not for a while.

The reverse is happening

The Traitors US, The Traitors Australia and The Traitors NZ will all be available on BBC iPlayer in 2024

The Traitors is one of the most thrilling shows around and the BBC will be following up on the latest UK series with more from Australia, New Zealand and the US, with all of this treachery to be available across 2024 on BBC iPlayer.

Following the highly anticipated conclusion of the second series of the UK version of The Traitors, the BBC today confirms that three international versions of the hit reality entertainment show will be available on BBC iPlayer in 2024, meaning fans can get their Traitors fix throughout the year on the BBC.

Following the culmination of the UK series, the second series of The Traitors Australia, hosted by Rodger Corser, begins on BBC Three at 10.50pm on Friday 26 January 2024, immediately after the final episode of The Traitors: Uncloaked on BBC Two, with all 9 episodes available as a boxset on BBC iPlayer at 6am the same day.

Could overseas sales save the show (or at least make it more financially viable)? Surely it can’t be that expensive to make, it didn’t even have prize money last season! :joy:

That was my thought. They saved themselves $250k to put forward on another season!

If the Australian version returns, I’d like them to utilise the same Castle as the UK/US versions as it really adds an amazing vibe/setting for the show. I believe those versions film pretty much back to back there. I’m not sure if that makes it more expensive being overseas but you’d think doing them together must save some costs with everything there being setup to go.

Season 2 of The Traitors Australia premieres on THREE in New Zealand on Monday night, February 5, following Married at First Sight.

I think that got it a second run but wouldn’t get it a third. If it returns I think it’ll be on Paramount+ rather than Ten, but sadly just think it’s one of those shows that just couldn’t find an audience in Australia despite succeeding elsewhere and despite Ten actually putting together a rather decent product.

We need Paramount though to try again to save us all from a Seven version hosted by Sonia Kruger.

The UK version got 5.75m viewers last night for the final, peaking at nearly 7m. Twice as many viewers as the first series finale. Even the spin-off reunion show got 3.1m viewers, more than last years actual finale.

Obviously Ten have to do what works for them although officially the show was just out for 2024 rather than axed completely - but doubt there are many “rested” shows that actually came back the following year on the same network.

I really hope 10 will give the show another chance, seeing how the US and the UK versions are rating at the moment. As the minimum, the latest UK and US seasons should be streaming on 10 Play.
