The Traitors

This reminds me of Survivor. It was successful in USA, Australia and South Africa, but flopped in Britain, so much so that there was a 21 year gap between season 2 and 3 (which streams on 10play from this Sunday).

I haven’t seen anyone be excited about 7’s new season of BB. That’s going to flop big time IMO

Even Survivor was a flop in Australia when it first started. Both Nine and Seven had a go at it and failed before Ten made it somewhat of a success.

The Traitors is not exactly a massive hit overseas either but it’s probably sustainable. Not sure switching networks will suddenly change viewers’ minds about it. It might work in Australia, if they gave it a go again in a few years.

I am far from a youth, infact it’s my birthday today and “I’m older than I ever intended to be” (thank you Chicago, the musical) and 10 is my go to commercial channel. I also have friends, similar age and even older who also prefer 10. Unfortunately, it’s well known and well discussed here, because 10 doesn’t have top level sport and has a lesser watched news service they rate lower. Nine have fairly loyal viewer to some of their crappy reality shows rate but if 7 lost sport and news ratings went lower they’d struggle to get viewers for their second rate reality.

I am sad The Traitors isn’t coming back, it had become one of my favourite shows. I hope 10 can bring it back at a later date or it becomes a Paramount+ show. Please don’t let it go to another commercial station, especially not 7 as they wreck formats, just look at Big Brother!

BBC has renewed Traitors for a third season - so perhaps on 10Play.

The Traitors will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for a third series and applications are now open for those who wish to play the game. This announcement is made in advance of the hotly anticipated second series which is coming soon.

In light of the numbers for a few recent shows (Bachelor, Big Brother), maybe 10 were too quick on the trigger to cancel Traitors - Given the international appeal and the fanatical if smaller fanbase for Traitors, it would probably rate better than Bachelor in the summer slot (that Bachelor has been used to fill in these past few seasons), as well as having strong international sales from Traitors being an outright hit in other countries (on FTA in NZ, UK & Canada, as well as the show being streaming hit in the US).

Additionally, 10play can upload the other versions to keep Traitors fans on 10Play

According to Aaron of TV Central, Paramount have not made a final decision on The Traitors, so there is still hope.

I wondered if they’d consider making it as an exclusive for Paramount+.

BBC announced overnight that The Traitors UK season 2 would premiere on January 3, 2024. Will it be available on 10Play?

I think 10 has done full season releases for Traitors International - so I expect the UK show to be aired in late Jan when the season is done based on that pattern.

Also, with a Canadian Traitors season now done, I expect them to release their season.

The second US season will likely air at a similar time. They have gone for a full cast of known names next season (mostly ex-reality contestants) and if the online casting lists are correct, it looks like both Sandra and Parvati from Survivor are on it.

I believe the cast is fully confirmed - all celebrities, and most being reality starts (and John Bercrow … Former British Parliamentarian who was the speaker of the House of Commons … for some reason).

Did Ten announce anything to effectively replace The Traitors?

The Canadian version has been the first English language version I’ve seen I’d consider a flop. Stunning location, brilliant host - but it’s just not worked at all and been a bit of a mess, even though The Traitors themselves aren’t too bad. It’s just forgettable really - indeed I’d forgot the finale was yesterday until it was mentioned above.

The new shows were mostly Deal or No Deal, Wheel of Fortune and Ready Steady Cook which I think would unlikely be multi-night primetime shows. 10 do often add some shows to the schedule post the upfronts so it’s to out of the question. Neither The Masked Singer or The Bachelors (second season) were mentioned in the 2023 upfronts. Given the current Bachelors season hasn’t done well, I wonder if they’d consider trying another Traitors season for the tail end of 2024?

The trailer for Traitors US 2 has just dropped with a Jan 12 Airdate.

I don’t know if Peacock is binge-dumping it like last time or if they are doing something more paced (I hope they pace it out; reality game shows like this work better on a week-to-week (1-3 eps a week) rather than a one-day dump)

Looking forward to it! Some good names on that cast. I really hope Parvati gets far.

I agree. Especially dumping them opens up to a lot of spoilers on social media. I found that with Squid Games: The Challenge recently where groups of episodes would come out and within a day there are already articles and things up about outcomes of the later episodes in the batch.

I just did a search and according to this - the first 3 episodes will be released January 12 and then episodes will be released weekly on Thursday’s. I assume that means an episode per week.

Yes - it’s three eps than weekly, though this is a format I don’t think works to well at one episode a week, especially with the cliffhanger elimination (murder) each episode.

Canada aired their series weekly and although it’s by far the worst series so far I do think the weekly airings meant it just couldn’t build up any momentum. You were pretty much going into it cold each week.

Not sure how many eps the Peacock version is but if it’s 10 eps I’d have thoughts releasing three a week then the final episode would be best.

The first series took a few episodes to really get going but this one has hit the mark from the opening episode.
