The Simpsons

Watching Schwarzenegger’s “Jingle All The Way” (1996) with Phil Hartman playing a core character.

Just read about his absolute tragic death and the sad events that lead to it, including his wife. I either had no idea or just completely forgot.

I remember many years ago about his death being widely in the news, being a core supporting V/O (a famous voice at that) in The Simpsons, but must not have paid attention to the causes at the time.

Any thoughts @Bort / @Sifon?

Tragic

I remember the news with Phil Hartman but had forgotten he was in The Simpsons, probably because it was an extremely rare event to get any episodes on TV in Tasmania. I didn’t know he was Troy McClure among others.

You may remember him from such voices as Troy McClure, Fat Tony, Lionel Hutz and Bill Clinton.

That was/is Joe Mantegna.

As for Phil, a tragic loss. One of the most gifted performers. @LukeMovieMan if you’re interested it’s worth tracking down some of his material on NewsRadio. He’s quite superb on there. The farewell episode after he died is heart wrenching (used to be in YouTube but can’t find it while on mobile).

While I’m here, fuck Andy Dick. Seriously. Absolute oxygen thief.

Phil was a legend. He made even the worst films watchable. See: Houseguest (1995)

IIRC, Phil voiced him once.

Wow. Fish Called Selma…didn’t even know. And it was one of favourite lines (sleeps with the fishes). Apologies @ando9185

No worries, I didn’t know it was only one episode, I thought it was a few more. Gotta love the internet for all the fan pages though for being able to find things!

That was such a good episode!!

Danke :+1:

I didn’t know it until recently either. It was mentioned elsewhere and I had to look it up.

It’s worth noting that they never retired Lionel Hutz or Troy McClure - they just no longer have speaking roles, can often be seen in the background of later episodes

Yeah, that’s what I kept wrapping my head around, when producers said his characters had been “retired”.

That explains why they didn’t bother with The Big Bang Theort repeats.

I expect this thread will go into meltdown now with Simpsons fanboys losing their shit. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It’s a great pick up for Seven and it’s multichannel, especially for 7mate and 7flix.

I definitely agree. It had to be picked up by a network sometime
