I don’t get this attitude, just don’t watch. I don’t and it doesn’t devalue the greatness of the first 7 or so seasons. But there’s clearly still an audience.
Well as with DW, i think we will see many more incarnations of the show itself.
Even the Jetsons came back 20 years later.
They’ll probably keep going until Julie Kavner’s voice gives out or something.
With AI, Disney will keep milking the show until it no longer makes them money.
everything about that is fucking dreadful
emotionless hellscape
In great news for Aussie The Simpsons fans, Disney+ has announced for the first time since they have had first run rights that the show will air one day after the US this season, premiering in Australia on Tuesday 1 October.
“We have made the difficult decision to sunset Tapped Out. In-app purchases have been disabled, and the game will be removed from the app stores October 31, 2024,” EA said in a Facebook post. “You may continue playing until January 24th, 2025, at which point servers will be turned off and TSTO will not be accessible.”
FINALLY
Now for The Simpsons itself to end…
We can only hope!
Or… don’t watch and let those who do still enjoy it!
Problem is though that there’s not all that many people left that do still enjoy it (based on the TV ratings at least).
I feel as though the producers wasted a massive opportunity about 10-15 years ago (when the decline became ever more pronounced). One of the great things about The Simpsons is that they managed to build a whole world filled with rich, complex secondary and tertiary characters.
Instead of shoehorning the Simpson family into every episode (often in the most tenuous of ways these days), I’d have liked to see them end the original run and had a spin-off (perhaps called “Springfield”) that focuses on and explores the stories of the many secondary and tertiary characters without the limitation of tying it back to the Simpson family in some way. Ironically they provided a good template for this in the classic “22 Short Films About Springfield”.
I do think that ship sailed about a decade ago unfortunately, I don’t think it would work now.
I think there was a spin-off at least proposed and inspired by 22 shorts after they produced that ep - but they realised they didn’t have the people power to run both The Simpsons and the hypothetical spin-off
The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase! Though that was more of a satire of spin-offs in general.
I always thought The Simpsons as a series should have been rested for a while, maybe when Futurama began. They could have kept it going in other forms, like films and specials, but the series itself should have ended after about Season 10. Not that it would have ever happened because $$$$$…
(Or maybe do a season set 5-10 years in the future…)

The Simpsons Releases ‘Series Finale’ But It’s Not Finishing…
> But the episode ended in an even more confusing way, with Bart returning home to find it was his 11th birthday. Bart, who has been ten years old for the entire show, refuses to blow out the candles, resulting in Homer attempting to strangle him.
It was shit. It dropped on Disney+ today and was awful. Made no sense whatsoever.
It wasn’t supposed to make sense - they’re poking fun at not only how convoluted a series finale would have to be for a series that’s run this long but also a surprisingly topical reference of how AI algorithms tend to just mash random stuff together and give everyone happy endings no matter what.
I like how the crew have been experimenting a lot with these broader concept episodes since the Fox buyout, gives the show something fresh to work with after 35 years.
