The Simpsons

Why did they buy MASH then? Or has that been remastered in 16:9 HD?

Finally Seven officially confirm something :hugs:

I’m curious, that’s specifically talking about “new episodes”.

I’d be very surprised if 7flix still isn’t used for re-runs, given they’re in need of a demo appealing and performing show to replace Big Bang (and their shares have been down since)?

7mate only has so much space and they’ll probably air one new ep a week the same night as Family Guy and American Dad? Remember 7mate has its other top performing new and re-run shows on other nights. Afternoons and weekends could be another option.

7 mate new episodes, 7 Flix old episodes?

I’d say most likely, yes.

Especially if Seven have paid money to access the entire series to date and it’s only a deal for a couple of years (initially).

Because everyone wants and LOVES the new episodes! I hope they play everyone’s favorite, “Lisa Goes Gaga”! :stuck_out_tongue:

Jokes aside, glad someone has picked up the FTA rights, but I hope new episodes won’t be the only ones that will be airing once The Simpsons hit Seven’s schedule, as we already know, a large reason for its popularity is the classic episodes and not so much for the newer stuff.

I should know that, since I admin a Simpsons Shitposting page (T.G.I McScratchy’s/Bortposting). :stuck_out_tongue:

11 episodes of Season 29 have now aired in the US - this gives them at least 5 weeks worth of new double episodes to launch the series. The most likely slot on 7mate is Wednesday 7.30 with Family Guy at 8.30.

Native HD then.

I’d rather original 4:3 than the terrible 16:9 cropping that FXX did to older episodes broadcast in the US. Maybe one day they will reanimate older episodes so they become proper 16:9 HD.

MASH could well be remastered in HD - it was filmed, wasn’t it?

The Simpsons on the other hand could never be remastered. I think the NTSC master tapes are all that’s left, and the best you could possibly do is some automated computer enhancement to the original to sharpen the lines.

Sorry if my tech knowledge is a bit basic here, correct me

The aspect ratio will be interesting.

No doubt the first 10-15 seasons require 4:3 adjustment for DVD.

Ten used to letterbox it (with black bars each side) for these seasons.

Trust Seven will do the same?

Some episodes have been remastered for widescreen, not sure about all. They look awful, with some adjusted animation.
I’ve only seen that for season 10 episodes onward.

I’m a little bit out of the loop but has 7 said anything about buying the whole back catalogue of episodes or are they just buying current ones?

Hasn’t been confirmed whether it’s the new episodes only or the entire series.

I hope it’s the entire series, re-runs are still so popular and would do well for Seven’s multi-channels.

If not though, is there a chance Ten could grab back the remaining re-runs?

Which would be weird, two FTA commercial networks, I doubt Seven would want that.

New drinking game

Take a drink every time “if”, “I wonder” or “I hope” is posted in this thread. Take a shot for “is there any news?”. For “marathon” it is three drinks while repeatedly saying “D’oh!”

Can’t handle that. I’m already struggling with the “Aldi in the Nine News thread” game.

There is no chance in hell Seven are only buying new episodes. Makes no sense from any point of view.

I will say that Seven seem to be very hush, hush and succinct in their new agreement with 20C Fox TV.

Not naming the specific shows and movies they’ve “cherry picked” from their back-catalogue (apart from The Simpsons and MASH, even they’ve got minimal info).
