Finally caught up with the season finale this week before the viewing period ended. It was a bit of a closure when Billie decided to leave Sydney on a train with Gus after performing at Jack’s Bar, while Jamie drove to the airport thinking Billie had flown to Melbourne. But that still leaves a few questions unanswered, such as tensions in the Norton family and the secret relationship between Chris and Vivienne.
Overall, it was a well-written first season and Jessica Mauboy, Rachel Gordon and Matt Levett gave great performances.
Filming is now underway in Sydney on a second season of THE SECRET DAUGHTER, Channel Seven’s feel-good hit of 2016 starring ARIA and AACTA Award-winner, Jessica Mauboy.
Mauboy reprises her Logie-nominated role of Billie Carter, the part-time country pub singer whose life was changed forever after a chance meeting with wealthy city hotelier Jack Norton.
The story picks up after Billie has turned her back on the Nortons and a record deal and is left wondering who she is and where she belongs. So begins Billie’s journey of self-discovery… family and friendship, rich and poor, career and love – can Billie have it all? Only time will tell…
Also returning to the popular family drama for Season 2 are Matt Levett (A Place To Call Home, Devil’s Playground), David Field (Catching Milat, No Activity), Rachel Gordon (Winter, The Moodys), Bonnie Sveen (Home and Away), Jared Turner (The Shannara Chronicles, The Almighty Johnsons), Jordan Hare (EMO the Musical), Terry Serio (Janet King) and J.R. Reyne (Neighbours).
They’ll be joined by new cast members including James Sweeny (Molly, Neighbours) and Rachael Maza (Radiance).
Jessica Mauboy has revealed to The Sunday Telegraph a couple of songs which will feature in the second season and also the soundtrack album: new single Fallin’, as well as classic tracks You Don’t Treat Me No Good by Sonia Dada, Plans by Birds of Tokyo, plus songs from ABBA and the Bee Gees.
Filming for second season wrapped last week. News Corp reports Jess has recorded classic Australian songs for the drama, including Goanna’s Solid Rock and The Church’s Under the Milky Way. She has also recorded a version of Amazing Grace with indigenous artist Gurrumul completely in Yolngu language — for the TV show and soundtrack.
Jessica Mauboy tweeted last night that the soundtrack album to season 2 is finished and she cannot wait to share it with her fans.
She will perform at the Royal Melbourne Show on Sunday, October 1, meet fans and sign copies of the new album. I am tipping October 2 for the season 2 premiere.
A brand new season of the smash hit drama is coming to Seven

Where did you hear this from; source please. I see nothing on TV Week’s social media posts about this.
Edit: Don’t worry about it, just saw a promo now for it starting Melbourne Cup day. I still don’t know how you know about the TV Week cover though. I don’t know why they are using Melbourne Cup night in their promos for Instant Hotel & The Secret Daughter, some people may be living under a rock and not know when Melbourne Cup Day is
Magazines are delivered to shops on Sunday afternoon for sale on Monday. I’ve discovered a place that puts them on the stand as soon as they are delivered so I buy it on Sunday night.
Oh okay. You live in Sydney or Melbourne don’t you? It makes sense if they go on sale slightly early over there. In Perth though I haven’t seen the magazines on stands until at least Monday in every shop I’ve been in or past.
