The Real Housewives of Melbourne/Sydney

Maybe it’s because they use the same production team to film other shows.

They’ve filmed a Mob Wives Australia that hasn’t screened yet.

There are reports today that Matchbox have officially pulled the plug on The Real Housewives of Sydney. Not surprising.

Although I’m still concerned the Melbourne one might be heading towards a similar fate. I haven’t heard anything about filming a new season which is usually already happening (or close to wrapping up) by this time of the year.

I’ve never watched either series but what do you think it is, not very profitable for Foxtel? Casting issues? Availability for the production company?

Surprised it doesn’t have broader appeal for another network to pick it up as a series, either for FTA or a local streaming service to drive subscription etc.

The Sydney season received a lot of negative feedback due to the cast constantly cat fighting. Plus it lacked in casting and didn’t really have anyone like Gina from Melbourne who really resonated with viewers. I’m not sure what’s going on with Melbourne, hopefully it will be back but if not I guess it had a good run with 4 seasons.

I feel that Foxtel has really bungled Real Housewives… excruciatingly slow production and several mis-steps along the way.

Jackie said on Insta a few weeks back that there have been no talks of RHOM for a new season.
I think foxtel have screwed it and I agree that the drawn out production and gaps in seasons has tainted the show.
Maybe a commercial network needs to go for it?

Yeah they stuffed up by trying to do both Sydney and Melbourne. Having a year off Melbourne then airing season 4 ver summer (Dec-Feb) was a little bizarre.

Janet has confirmed on Instagram that a fifth season of RHOM will start filming next year. She posted a video from season 4 and wrote ‘Coming soon’ and then confirmed in the comments that a new season would be filming early in the new year. There’s no news on returning cast members but you would assume Janet must be coming back.

I just wish they would hurry up and get onto it. I’m not sure why there has been such a big gap between seasons. You kind of lose the momentum of the drama from the previous ones. Maybe they think the longer gap will give more time for people like Gina/Sally/Janet to cool off and agree to do it all again.

I really hope so, but I feel like we’ve been down this road before, false starts and false promises.

I’d like to know who is responsible for the delays, Foxtel or Matchbox because the delays really are killing momentum. So much drama has been missed out on.

Gina, Jackie & Janet need persuading? No chance they live for this fame and relevancy despite their claims to the contrary.

Now that I don’t have Sydney I need Melbourne back asap.

Yasssssss! This makes up for Nine’s disappointing programming announcements!

Do Foxtel do an Upfront ?

By the end of season 4 it felt impossible that they could do another season with a few of these girls. There was just so much hate. Also Janet said after filming the last season that she wouldn’t do it again. Obviously this is about the third time she has said that between season and then they’ve got her back again.

To be honest it wouldn’t’ surprise me if the filming schedule is when it best suits Gina

So true.

I agree on the hate getting out of control, but those real reactions make for the best seasons. Season 4 was perfection.

I thought if they wanted to stay on the show they would change aspects of their behaviour or tone it down, but you’re right for some of the ladies their ego probably wouldn’t allow it.

Janet’s my fave so as long as she’s on board with Gamble I’m all good.

Remember that by the end of season 4 every gathering they had resulted in Gina pretty much storming out and some of the accusations like wog bitch were getting quite nasty.

There’s every chance that they honestly weren’t sure what to do with the show, Sydney got axed so they decided to get onto a 5th season but it probably takes a few months to get everyone (cast and crew) back on board to film it.I’m just happy that it is coming back. Hopefully it films very early in the new year so they can get it on screen before the middle of the year.

Can’t seem to find this on her instagram? Everything I see has her replying “not sure” “not a question I can answer” to if it’s back for season 5?

She has possibly deleted it as wasn’t meant to say anything about it until it’s officially announced. I read an article about the comment somewhere on facebook.

I just never thought Gina would let the other women dictate what she did and I certainly didn’t think she’d throw a hissy fit and be seen letting the other women get to her so much especially Sheriff Sally. What I could see would be her trying to ice out some of the other women, ala Bethenny & Vanderpump style and holding production to ransom and production trying to smooth things over with everyone, hence the delays. Though Gina’s biggest problem is she can dish it out but she can’t take. Too fragile an ego.

I’m still upset about Sydney. It really was salvageable. Most franchises never have that much drama and Sydney had plenty from the get go. I know some people didn’t like the confrontational nature but I loved it. Sigh, such a missed opportunity.

Definitely agree on the last part.

I’m with you, bloody loved Sydney - trainwreck from go to woe. Melbourne seems quite pedestrian by comparison.

Nothing will ever top Athena “Jatz crackers” X.

Foxtel executive director of television Brian Walsh has confirmed The Real Housewives of Sydney is finished, but The Real Housewives of Melbourne could make a return.

Could make a return? It’s getting too long now. The show loses momentum and interest if there are consistently up to 2 year breaks between season. If there aren’t any plans to commence filming really soon there there is no point IMO. In regards to his Gina comment… If he doesn’t like how she is then why don’t they cut her? Oh wait they can’t because Gina has the biggest following and I’m sure the majority of viewers come back for her. The best thing about last season was the drama that she stirred up IMO. It seems a bit of a cop out reason to not have gotten onto doing another season yet.

A recent article says that a decision on the future of The Real Housewives of Melbourne has still not been made.
