Caught up last night and agree it was a great episode, probably the strongest of the season IMO.

I think the last three were the strongest. The first episode was weak and cliche but it really start to hit it strides towards the end. Good cliffhanger as well!

TVLine has learned exclusively that producers will also be introducing the young version of Vera Strickland, the character originated by Roma Maffia a decade ago in the Season 11 NCIS installment “Under the Radar.” In the episode, it was established that Strickland was Franks’ onetime partner.

CBS’ Reisenbach also promised news to come “soon” for the NCIS: Sydney fans wondering if the Australia-set offshoot, which recently aired its season finale, will get a Season 2.

Season-to-date, NCIS: Sydney has been averaging 6.6 million viewers and a 0.43 demo rating (with Live+7 playback). It stands as CBS’ most-watched entertainment program of this strange, strikes-delayed TV season, and only trails the Eye Network’s own 60 Minutes in total audience.

NCIS: Sydney also emerged as the most-watched freshman show on any network this fall.

“We’re thrilled with how NCIS: Sydney did,” Reisenbach said. “It’s not just a win for CBS but it’s really a win for all of Paramount, for Paramount+, for Paramount International….

“I feel really positive, and there will be news to come soon,” she added.

From deadline.

What is taking the renewal of NCIS Sydney so long?

It did very well and has put that stupid myth that Americans can only hear their voices or cannot understand foreign accents to bed.

I look forward to another paltry 8 episodes whenever they get off their arses to renew.

Could be any number of things…increasing the “paltry” number of episodes etc, costs, contracts. What makes sense for a limited series may not make sense for an ongoing one.z

Yet they manage to renew an American series in less than a week, despite all those points you raised.

Seeing as Sydney would cost millions less to produce than NCIS or Hawaii I doubt cost is the issue.

It was never going to be a limited series due it’s procedural nature and the fact it was successful immediately. Plus Paramount has milked it on so many stations and streaming it could not have been an unprofitable lemon.

The Paramount article says it all. They only want to focus on American junk and were shocked how well it did so they are dragging their feet to a renewal. Though given its success I did think a renewal would have been cemented by now, even with all the turmoil and cuts.

I’d suggest an American series would be infinitely easier to renew than an Australian one, yes.

You’re dealing with different employment contracts, unions etc etc. I can see how that can quickly become an issue.

Paramount renewed 5 Bedrooms very quickly. Heartbreak High season 2 was announced just as fast.

Wouldn’t you think their contracts would have options already in place for future seasons in case it was a success and so they wouldn’t have to do legal wranglings. Surely that’s just basic business and common sense.

You’re acting like an American company has never renewed or commissioned an Australian production and has to deal with all these unknowns or loop holes.

Don’t forget it took them almost a year to even begin to start to write 8 episodes after first being announced and almost two years for them to begin airing. The whole production seems messy and chaotic and Paramount support half hearted.

You’re contradicting yourself here - if the whole production has been unusually sluggish, wouldn’t that speak to wider issues as to why it’s taking so long?
