Not at all, just that 10 and Paramount have never placed a priority on local dramas and are endlessly promoting and renewing their American shows while allowing local productions to languish.
I donât think thatâs true.
Since P+ launched they have been producing 10x
The amount of Australian drama that seven does
Which isnât hard, because 7 is producing diddly squat also. Which is hilarious as they want to compete with streamers yet offer virtually nothing apart from a soap in the way of scripted content.
Tell me what exactly is 10 airing in Australian drama other than Neighbours this year that isnât reheated Paramount+ seconds?
I think the key word is had been. Iâll be very interested to hear what is getting produced after the Paramount news. So far LKofC is the only new commission on either 10/Paramount isnât it?
10/Paramount are the worst when they promise to air on FTV only to dump it behind a paywall. To me that isnât the actions of a network invested in Aus drama.
For a big multi national streamer, they honestly produced the bare minimum in Australian drama. Yes it looked good compared to the pitiful FTA offerings but I wouldnât call less than 80 hours (I could honestly only count 69 hours) of Australian drama over a 4 year period a big win especially with how deep Paramount+ pockets were.
You can compare them to Netflix and others, but they donât have a foot in the door in the domestic scene via 10 so it isnât a fair comparison.
Strife is a new drama coming to Paramount+ this year.
I agree their strategy to use content across streaming / FTA isnât great, people generally donât want reheated scraps from streaming months later on free TV.
Thatâs why a lot of US commercial networks have a linear first strategy with it available on their OTT streaming service the day after etc.
I think the us market is really different.
The networks have much bigger programming budgets and still commission scripted. Whereas in Australia all that money now goes to news sport and reality.
Networks in Australia gave up on scripted 5 years ago
Of all the commissioners of Australian drama in Australia in terms of series made Iâd rank them something like this (itâs a guesstimate)
Stan
Paramount +
ABC
Prime
Netflix
Disney
SBS
9
10
7
So to me P+ is doing pretty good.
10 unfortunately does not have the programming budgets to throw at scripted. And viewers want scripted with no ads on streamers. Thatâs demanded by viewers. The networks have reacted
Paramount+ were doing okay locally with commissions, but after removing a bunch of titles the other week which included a number of scripted titles as well as reality and docuseries, Iâm not sure quite the same could be said anymore.

NCIS: LA star Daniela Ruah is directing the 1001st episode of the franchise (NCIS: Hawaiâi S03 E07).
NCIS: Hawaiâi star Jason Antoon told Hello magazine that a crossover with NCIS: Sydney would be amazing, but he didnât think it would happen this season.
Tony and Ziva are back, in a 10-part series for Paramount+.
I wonder what it will be called since Tony & Ziva probably wonât be NCIS agents so it probably wonât have âNCISâ in the title.
This will mean if NCIS, HAWAII & SYDNEY are all renewed for 2024-25 there will be 5 active NCIS universe shows running at the same time with NCIS: Origins starting too
I suspect theyâll have to use NCIS. It anchors the show for potential viewers more than actual meaning what the letters stand for.
thatâs true but all the other NCIS shows past and present (OG, LA, NOLA, Hawaii, Sydney & Origins) investigate Navel-related crimes etc but the premise for this doesnât seem like itâs about Navel crimes so having NCIS would be weird
Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together. When Tonyâs security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, trying to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after."
CBS needs to be careful not to over expand the NCIS universe. Five shows in one season is too many. The FBI franchise on CBS, and Chicago and Law & Order franchises on NBC, each has three shows.
I think the Tony and Ziva spin-off should stream on P+ in mid 2025, during the summer non-ratings in America.
it is for P+ isnât it? and i think Sydney will be too (this year was just special circumstances). So its 3 being broadcast on CBS & 2 on P+ and could be broadcast during the summer etc. But i do agree that 5 shows that would be very similar airing on tv during the week is too much.
Though it is floating around out there that âNCIS: Europeâ is at the very least a ânicknameâ for this new spinoff, TVLine hears that is not the title. Showrunner John McNamara meanwhile is mum, teasing, âif I told you what it is, Iâd be violating the Espionage Act.â
⌠the Tony/Ziva spinoff was greenlit by, and will stream on, the Paramount+ streaming service.
If they were NCIS agents then this would make sense but since they are not I wonder what they call this spin off
As discussed, I donât think it needs to make sense. Not a lot about the show does.
But if youâre a casual fan who isnât as clued in on spinoffs and what not, or maybe a lapsed fan once they both left the series, you need it to be called NCIS: Redemption or NCIS: Tony and Ziva (lol) to attract that fanbase.
NCIS: Spinoff
The Blacklist also had a one-season spin-off called The Blacklist: Redemption.
NCIS: TIVA
