As seen in the OG NCIS, even from relatively early seasons, eps could revolve around non-crime/investigative plots too, such as the team’s personal lives, etc and were often some of the best, memorable episodes.
From Gibbs’ wife and daughter, to OG assistant ME’s hostage situation and aftermath including Ducky, to Kate & Ari & Gibbs and that whole arc which spanned the series and that’s just S1 and S2 nearly 20 years ago now! Could go on and on and on…
I didn’t mind it overall, but some of the opening scenes felt poor in performance and incredibly hard to believe, even using a creative imagination it was hard to see past that.
Once you learnt more about the situation and motivation it was better, the story trajectory and twists and turns were well scripted.
NCIS will pay tribute to the late David McCallum (Ducky) with a special episode scheduled for February 19, 2024 on CBS. It is the second episode of season 21. Brian Dietzen — who since Season 1 has played Ducky’s protege, Dr. Jimmy Palmer — is co-writer on the episode, with executive producer Scott Williams.
IIRC, now only second longest-running, just, to McGee (Sean Murray)? Who beats him by only a few episodes. Both were guests in an episode in S1, then returned the next year, the latter quickly becoming a series regular and the former did become the permanent Assistant ME to Ducky however wouldn’t become a series regular (opening credit) until S10 eight years later, always wondered why, as Palmer had some significant storylines or contributed to them across the peak era.
