The Latest

Almost certain most or all of the production of the show will continue from Sydney.

Where as studio staff can stay on to work on the bulletin, producers from 6pm in Perth aren’t going to have the time to make The Latest. They would need to hire extra people, resulting in no savings.

Cost savings will come from studio staff who take in overtime and loadings. Most journalists don’t get this in the first place.

Do they really? Or do they just work a later shift? It’s not late enough for loading to come into effect.

I’m not familiar with the award for studio staff anymore but for memory it used to be loading from around 7pm-7am or there about. There may be a bit out of Perth but won’t be of the same levels of Sydney.

There’s very few studio since they moved to Eveleigh, it’s all automated. My guess is savings will come from fewer live crosses (paying camera crew/freelancers) and repackaging 4 and 6pm stories from across the network.

I’ve been told most if not all production is heading to Perth. You might have an East Coast producer compiling items from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, but the rest will be from TVW. Works well with the impending launch of The Nightly website too.

This is what I’ve heard too. Crews around the country have been told they won’t be required to work the late roster anymore, the program instead using repackaged content from the 6pm news and look-lives recorded after 6pm crosses when needed.

I don’t see that as a bad thing it’s what the 10:30 news with Sandra Sully did for years. The biggest problem is the varied times its on. The virtual set is fine. The video walls that the eastern states have are an expensive gymick and the bulletin could be like the early news and be in front of a green screen and it would be fine.

Wonder if this will impact The Latest’s ability to bring breaking news stories, including Ukraine and Israel-Gaza wars, and the announcement of the queen’s health (which started 72+ hours of rolling coverage).

It will still be presented live, so should still be possible. They just won’t have back to back lives/crosses like before.

I’m still hoping for a new, real set. The green screen is horrid.

NBC do it sometimes with Jose Diaz-Balart when he does Saturdays from Miami. They’ve got him standing for the opener with the iconic desk from 30 Rock. (dead giveaway when he walks though)

Pretty impressive considering - could’ve fooled me. But this is Seven we’re talking about
