I apologise. I should’ve said they’re not suitable for a national news bulletin.

Neither are the likes of Robert Ovadia, or Mark Burrows, or Michael Thompson, or James McHale (I know different networks but still average presenters on a national bulletin), yet they still done national presenting.

Where would you expect the presenters to get their presenting experience on the Perth produced bulletin?

Let’s face it… it’s going to be someone unknown to the east coast… unless someone from the east coast wants to move west.

9News Late seems to do ok with relatively unknown readers from Perth and Newcastle on a regular basis and has even had a Brisbane presenter.

This appears to be a recent decision (otherwise they would surely have started the year from Perth) so I’m not confident that they have enough lead time to pull a proper physical set together.

I guess there’s a chance Perth was already planning a new set and the network is taking advantage of the timing. But I’m not holding my breath.

That would ruffle a few feathers I suspect. There’s quite a cheque.

:joy: Wrong Angela I suspect. Angela Tsun.

And what about the Sydney weekend news?

Could revert to Michael presenting solo, or they could pair him with Angie Asimus or somebody else.

Ange moving to Perth is an interesting thought - but they would have mentioned it with the announcement surely?

Again it was just an out there thought, given that the article only mentioned Usher, however, I wouldn’t be surprised either if Cox remained in Sydney, particularly since Seven have been making some inroads in the local ratings.

Possibly they might even be trying to convince her to move/making offers and deals etc. Again out there thoughts.

Haha no way she is moving to Perth. It will be done by some local presenter or a senior reporter wanting more presenting shifts.

Shame they can’t just keep it presented from Sydney but switched from a Perth control room.

Why is it a shame?

For one, lack of real set for the national show to be presented from.

the show is what it is because of the producers, EP and production staff.
Are those people all relocating to PER?

Does PER have the talent to produce a show like this?

It might end up watered down and more like a traditional news bulletin.

It will 100% end up a late night version of the morning/afternoon news. I’d say the only reason it wasn’t axed is because of 9’s late news.

They’d also be giving 10 somewhat of a free kick with their impending Late News launch, if they were to exit from the late news space altogether.

Let’s hope not. It is the only bulletin I watch because of its general faster pace. If I wanted time wasting nonsense I’d watch the hour-long 6pm bulletins.

I think Perth is more than capable of producing and presenting this bulletin. The green screen needs to go though, that is awful for all the bulletins. Hopefully we see a real set as part of all this.

it’s more the editorial standards - not the production standards (well, both)

Surely it will still be produced from Sydney.

You might have one east coast producer but the idea is to have Perth produce it closer to business hours to save on overtime and late night penalties.
