Haha yeah its hard to tell for most. For a while odd shading appeared around desk as the shot zoomed in - thats what tipped me off. They’ve rectified that now.
Likewise, always thought he was coming up to NY on Saturdays.
Though I can see it now.
Exactly - there’s no doubt virtual sets can be done well…but Seven Perth is not an example of that.
Slightly off topic, but is that desk in the video real?
Exactly. The biggest problem with the Perth one is the pixelation and distortion of the set and graphics.
Still can’t see the difference but thanks anyway
It’s a pretty amazing render though (despite the green screen effects of the presenter), especially if the over the shoulder shot they use later in the bulletin is a render too. I think they use the desk area render before the 8am news update on Today as well with a little sweeping shot.
It’s most noticeable during his short walk on at the very start. His feet give it away.
Here’s an example of what I was talking about when the desk shadow didn’t seem to be rendered properly, so it would just appear in small clumps at the very start:
I think he was until COVID, then he had anchor from a green screen in Miami, and kept doing it most of the time. For a long time it was just a static shot with the OTS/“screen” changing. He still occasionally anchors from NY, you can tell when they have the sweeping in shot with the vertical screen.
Seven have removed The Latest from the schedule of the week starting 11 March. The bulletin was already out of Monday’s line-up thanks to the Oscars that finished at midnight; now it has been removed from the rest of the week as well. Perhaps to allow time for Perth to prepare? The final bulletin scheduled is for Thursday 7 March.
Perth could prepare any week, it doesn’t have to be the week after production from Sydney finishes. Something seems off here. I wouldn’t entirely rule out the bulletin quietly being axed to save costs.
10 should take the opportunity to launch their last bulletin.
It is worth noting that in 2003, Seven axed its Late News as part of a revamp of its news services which also included the recruitment of Ian Ross, and the move to Martin Place, among other things.
But I would like to think that Seven would continue to invest in The Latest after the move to Perth.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the axe has been swung.
I wouldn’t be surprised either, although it would be disappointing. Why make an announcement if the plan isn’t concrete. I’m quite keen to see how Perth executes the program.
Would be a shame. It’s a good program. Last nights episode at around 10pm including the Headliners segment is perfect for the timeslot and after The Front Bar.
That’s my immediate thought too, I would not be shocked at all if 10 Late News is axed as well
Let’s be honest, the market for late news is probably not big enough for three separate bulletins on 7, 9 and 10.
The Late Latest
