Hard to understand what is different about the scheduling last night with a 10pm start. Any other night it would have run at 11pm after whatever Seven had in the cupboard for 10pm.
And for the next couple of weeks it is at 9.30pm on Thursdays (or at least whenever The Front Bar finishes).
PS The show should also run on Sundays like 9News Late that does very well.
From my assessment, I would say the Sydney studio / control room crew would take over just after midday and start on producing Sydney news update and work on the local 4.00pm and 6pm bulletins. Their shift should finish at 8.00/8.30am. Currently, more crew would be needed to put to put The Latest to air.
Where in Perth they could easily have the local crew produce The Latest straight after Perth’s local news. And still fit within a normal persons shift work of 8 hours. The downside, Perth will get a delayed bulletin their time.
Still both Tim and Angela are known by national audiences through presenting national bulletins from time to time.
Rick and Sue also have national exposure, through presenting late updates from time to time, to announcing the death of Prince Philip. Sue has also been involved with coverage of the funerals of Princess Diana and the Queen, as well as the coronation of King Charles. Sue also presented rolling national coverage of the Sydney Siege, including the final stages of the crisis, which parts of was broadcasted on CNN.
I think to the average person on the east coast, Jerrie would be no more or less recognisable than Tim and Angela… Even Rick and Sue. People don’t know the state based presenters in other states.
Why does every presenting gig have to be someone ‘known’? If your Perth based, Sydney based, Melbourne based - whatever? Isn’t this an opportunity to give someone a new national spotlight? They have to start at some point.
The Latest needs to have a consistent start time sometimes it starts after 11 which is way to late if you have to work the next day. They need to schedule it as close to 10:30 as possible.
I quite like Usher and Cox presenting it. When Gemma Acton hosted as she is known as a finance reporter not a news reader so it appears odd. The same in reverse when Cox does the finance report while Acton was on leave.
For someone new they’d probably prefer to try them out first in secondary roles like fill-in etc., before plunging them straight into the major role. Gives a new talent a chance to get “known” so they’re not just thrown at viewers from scratch and gives management a chance to see how they work out.
With this moving to Perth surely it means Perth will get a physical set? Making it a virtual one based off what the presentation of it in the new Sydney set now will be a massive step back.
