The Great Outdoors

Pretty competitive ratings last night for the new season.

Episode 3 schedule (not shown in Brisbane)

Good to see that it rated pretty well last night for the “long awaited return”.

Returns to the 5.30pm slot for episode 3, against Nine’s Getaway. In favour of endless Border Security repeats (and the telethon in Perth).

The Great Outdoors and Getaway have always done overseas travel stories. Local travel stories are usually reserved for Sydney Weekender or Postcards etc.

I for one want international stories.

Exactly. The more local shows like Postcards etc feel like a complete infomercial which puts me off. The appeal of shows like Getaway and The Great Outdoors are the overseas destinations IMO. The Texas visit was great.

I find this such a strange decision to go directly against Getaway. It feels like the old days when lifestyle shows ruled and Seven/Nine would counter program very similar shows. Hopefully good ratings makes them re-think this as 7pm feels a better place for it IMO.

I think that if Seven wanted to put a travel show at 5:30pm Saturdays, then why don’t they move Weekender back there. Air The Great Outdoors at 7pm, encore the pair back to back from 6am Sunday morning and an encore of one episode of The Chase Australia 6am Saturday morning, then push NBC Today back an hour both days.

The Great Outdoors could air a further encore at 5:30pm Sundays

Hopefully they reconsider and keep it where it is after the ratings

Stupid decision to show a repeat of Border in favour of a new ep of The Great Outdoors.

Ep 3 will be shown in Queensland on the Sunday 20 Oct 4:30pm.

Switch and put BS on in this timeslot.

Watched the ep on catchup. Content wise was great its back but dear lord talk about lack of identity, titlecard or branding throughout, just basic text overlayed on VT. Looks like a filler doco

Now we just need Coxy’s Big Break back!

I thought the same thing.

Air it on Saturday night primetime for two weeks to get some buzz, then air it where “it belongs” on Saturday afternoons, as a lead in to the News? The almighty lead in to the news. I can see their rational on this.

Most cities had Border Security filler repeats at 5.30pm. So new content does help. I hope.

But then they air Border Security repeat at 7:00pm. Wouldn’t the different states Weekender programs be better suited to 5:30pm Saturdays and The Great Outdoors at 7pm. The Great Outdoors could encore at 5:30pm Sunday for regions that don’t have a local program such as Creek To Coast at 5:30pm.

Border Security is an everyday filler, some of these episodes are getting very stale, more like 4am filler content along with Million Dollar Minute

Returning in 2025 announced at the upfronts.

Its good to read that this is returning. With not many AFL matches airing on Saturdays in 2025, i wonder if Seven will air more episodes of The Great Outdoors and air in its current timeslot?
