The Footy Show (NRL)

Just out of interest, Beau Ryan did a segment from someone’s home and they had The Footy Show on in the background. I counted around 6 seconds delay.

Watching the latest episode, the show is not that bad. But the awful timeslot is crippling the ratings.

  • the show was great in the 1990’s, with Fatty, Sterlo, Blocker and Hadley.
  • the show was good with Fatty, Sterlo, the Chief, Mathew Johns and Andrew Voss
  • the show became quite average, unfortunately, with the additions of Erin Molan and Beau Ryan. Fatty looks bored every time he appears on the show. At least Brohman is some good addition to the show.

On a good point - at least The Sunday Footy Show is going well. When Sterlo left last year, I thought that the show was doomed. Luckily, Yvonne Sampson came on board and was a saviour.

THE NRL FOOTY SHOW RETURNS HOME TO THURSDAY NIGHTS

From August 25 on Nine

In the run to the NRL finals, the 10-time Logie Award-winning NRL Footy Show will return to its traditional night of Thursday from August 25 on Channel Nine.

“We are thrilled to be ‘coming home’ to Thursday nights as we make the run into one of the most exciting finals series in memory. I’m sure our fantastic and loyal viewers will be just as excited,” Glenn Pallister, Executive Producer of The NRL Footy Show, said today.

For the rest of the 2016 season, hosts Paul “Fatty” Vautin, Erin Molan, Darryl Brohman and Beau Ryan will keep you entertained and informed, along with guest appearances from NRL superstars Johnathan Thurston, Paul Gallen, Sam Thaiday and James Maloney, and new episodes of Footy Show favourites Small Talk with The Big Marn, Tommy’s Tirade and Player Probe.

But will the Viewers who where Disenfranchised when the show moved to Wednesday Earlier in the Year???

As myself and others have undoubtedly said many times before, Nine either need to give The NRL Footy Show the biggest relaunch it’ll ever get (that includes replacing all presenters) or better yet, just axe it entirely in favour of a regular NRL version of Footy Classified or alternative programming (ie, what the AFL states get on Friday nights in lieu of NRL coverage) while the AFL states have their version of The Footy Show.

When your program has been known to rate lower than ABC KIDS programs in a key market, you know that something’s seriously wrong! No timeslot change will fix the incredibly dire ratings IMO.

At Least The Sunday Footy Show which Vonnie, Joey, Freddy, Locky and Moles Appear is doing well and is Full of Rugby League Content unlike the Primetime Edition which has lost it’s Way.

###2016 Grand Final Footy Show

Thursday 29 September

The 10-time Logie Award-winning NRL Footy Show tonight announced it will adopt a carnival theme when the Grand Final Footy Show goes under the “Big Top” at North Sydney Oval on Thursday, September 29.

With the entire broadcast under the “Big Top” marquee on the famous sporting venue, the NRL Footy Show will host a blockbuster night of entertainment to cap off its 23rd year on air.

Both Grand Final teams will be on hand for their final appearance together before kick-off in this season’s NRL Premiership decider.

World-famous illusionist Cosentino, fresh from being voted both International Magician of the Year and International Escape Artist of the Year, will appear and perform one of his death-defying stunts.

ARIA Award winners Bliss N Eso will perform a special Footy Show medley, including some of their biggest hits, as well as unveiling their new song exclusively LIVE on the night.

Glenn Pallister, Executive Producer, is embracing the carnival atmosphere the Grand Final Footy Show is set to create.

“We have been called a bunch of clowns for years, so why not take the show under a gigantic circus tent?” he said.

“This promises to be one of the best atmospheres we’ve ever had at a Grand Final Footy Show. Everything will be up close and personal for not only the people under the Big Top, but for the audience at home too.

“Apart from the mega entertainment lineup we have a few surprises up our sleeve. It will be a ripper.”

The Footy Show Awards will return along with the infamous Player Revue featuring NRL players present and past, before one lucky audience member takes centre stage on North Sydney Oval and attempts to slot a field goal to win $30,000 thanks to Sportsbet.com.au.

Tickets to the Grand Final Footy Show are now on sale at www.eventopia.co/footyshow. VIP packages include a pre-show function with hosts Paul “Fatty” Vautin, Erin Molan, Darryl “The Big Marn” Brohman and Beau Ryan, as well as NRL players past and present.

Nice to see The Footy Show doing the Grand Final edition in an outdoor venue for the first time. Since the NRL version began, the GF edition had been held in places such as Sydney Entertainment Centre (until it was demolished late last year).

Just what the NRL Footy Show need - an illusionist!

Bit late though; should have been brought in earlier in the year to hypnotise viewers to keep watching.

I’ve heard that Qudos Bank Arena (formerly the SuperDome and Allphones Arena) charges $1 million a day for hire, if that’s true North Sydney Oval would be a lot cheaper!!

So many people in here seem to forget one simple thing - NRL is on Nine for the next 5 years… there’s no way in fresh hell Nine is going to axe The Footy Show. It might not rate through the roof but it’s bringing in revenue from sponsorships and gets access to players etc.

Or just axe it like Ten’s Before the Game.

Delta Goodrem announced on Facebook and Twitter tonight that she would perform on the grand final edition. It’s the second year in a row she appears on the finale. She has been a frequent guest on the show in the past two years.

NRL FOOTY SHOW RAISES OVER $500,000 IN RECORD CHARITY TELETHON RESULT

The NRL Footy Show has put smiles on the faces of some very deserving children by raising over $500,000 in its fourth annual “Big Change for Little Champions” Telethon last night – the highest amount in the show’s 23-year history.

With pending auctions and a massive total to be finalised on the Grand Final episode of The Footy Show, plus a donation from Sportsbet, the fundraising will top the half-million-dollar mark.

The Logie Award-winning Footy Show rallied the rugby league community to raise funds for The Starlight Children’s Foundation which helps sick kids and their families all around the country.

On The Footy Show panel last night, hosts Paul “Fatty” Vautin and Erin Molan started proceedings along with NSW Origin and Cronulla Sharks five-eighth James Maloney and the star of the upcoming Channel Nine drama Hyde and Seek, Matt Nable.

Meanwhile in the Flexigroup call centre hosts Darryl “The Big Marn” Brohman, Beau Ryan and injured Australian test fullback Billy Slater were joined by Kim and Chris from The Block, Sydney Roosters playmaker Mitchell Pearce and his rugby league legend father Wayne, Here Come the Habibs stars Kat Hoyos, Tyler De Nawi and Sam Alhaje, and Olympic hurdler Michelle Jenneke.

A host of generous donations were made by organisations including Jaycar Electronics and F45 ($50,000), Channel Nine, the National Rugby League, Canterbury Leagues Club and Flexigroup ($20,000), Wet‘n’Wild and Soul Origin ($10,000), and the Brisbane Broncos, Sony Music and Rebel Sport ($5,000).

Starlight’s NSW Partnerships Manager, Holly Roberts, said: “We are delighted to have already raised more than $500,000 through our telethon and partnership with The NRL Footy Show. This will give more than 11,000 sick kids and their families access to our hospital programs nationally.

“We rely solely on the community to keep the doors to our Starlight Express Rooms open, and to grow our Captain Starlight program so we can reach even more sick kids and their families around Australia. We couldn’t sustain these programs without the support and generosity of Channel Nine and the rugby league community.”

NRL Footy Show Executive Producer, Glenn Pallister, said: “In the four years of The Footy Show presenting The Big Change for Little Champions Telethon I have never been more proud of the show or the result. Not just because of all the people who helped put it together, but most importantly the wonderful people who donated. We at The Footy Show thank you all and wish every person that passes through the doors of a Starlight Room the very best for their journey.”

According to the Telegraph, Beau Ryan is on $800,000 a year?! Seems way over the top.

I haven’t seen him on anything else at Nine, so yeah seems excessive.

That’s $700k over budget, for the amount of work he does

I thought that salaries of $800k a year at Nine (and other TV networks) are usually reserved for top tier network personalities who lead successful, ratings topping programs.

You really can’t class Beau Ryan as a top tier personality within the Nine Network by any stretch of the definition. Nor can you say that The NRL Footy Show is a successful, ratings topping program in it’s current form…

In this day and age, you’d think so.

That cannot be right.

The premiere of Survivor: Millennials v Gen X means the grand final edition from North Sydney Oval will not air until midnight on Nine in AFL states. It will be a long wait for Storm fans, especially their team is in the grand final and will attend the early part of the show, plus the show cannot be streamed live on 9Now in Melbourne because of postcode restrictions.
