If/when the Parramatta Eels manage to make it into a future NRL Grand Final (Surely their 35 year premiership drought will end one of these days?), one would like to hope that Nine might invite Peter Sterling back to cover that match as a one-off.

But aside from that point, hopefully Sterlo enjoys retirement!

At least he’s going out while still relatively respected/well liked as a commentator, unlike other members of Nine’s NRL Coverage team (namely Ray Warren & Phil Gould) who IMO really should’ve retired over a decade ago.

Are you sure?

I can’t recall any other time and have been watching since the 1990s. It used to air at 11.30pm or later before the introduction of multi-channels.

The AFL version would of course normally air in its place. NRL Grand Final Day coverage has usually aired on 9Gem prior to this year (apart from pre-match entertainment and the game itself).

A fantastic farewell from Mat Thompson for Peter Stirling on Sterlo’s Wrap from NRL on Nine YouTube.

The Footy Show is back? NRL wants Nine to bring a midweek show for NRL.

Knowing how networks would rather revive old programs than come up with new ones, probably.

Of course I hope not. The Footy Show had been stale for at least a decade by the time it was axed in 2018!

I’d rather have Nine air “100% Footy” twice a week instead, like what Nine does with “Footy Classified”… instead of reviving The Footy Show. It works fine at the moment as a Sunday morning version…

Agreed. Even an NRL version of Footy Classified (like what they did during the 2015 finals series) probably wouldn’t be that bad.

But I don’t think there’s much viewer demand for a Footy Show revival. Thursday Night Football basically killed off the program!

IF they HAVE to, then just bring back Fatty and Big Marn and call it ‘The Fatty Show’ instead. Would be a crowd pleaser to many and definite ratings winner

The NRL Sunday Footy Show returns this Sunday, March 13 at 11am (10am in QLD). It will be shown live on 9Gem in Melbourne and Adelaide for the first few weeks, due to live telecast of NRL Women’s Premiership and the 4pm NRL game.

Also regarding the return of The Sunday NRL Footy Show, it will only air for one hour this Sunday because of the NRLW match that follows. Should return to a 2 hour show soon.

Phil Rothfield writes in The Sunday Telegraph today that his colleagues David Riccio and Brent Read have both been dropped by Nine without an official explanation. For the best part of 10 years, Riccio and Read have featured on Sunday Footy Show, delivering views on the big issues and keeping punters informed with the latest rugby league developments.

Possibly because they feature on NRL360 weekly and are part of a rival newspaper?

This bloke is such a snowflake. He always plays the victim. There’s never any actual analysis. These so called journalists are in opposition to Nine’s own publication and they probably just woke up to the fact that they may have some more corporate synergies and not give a leg up to the opposition. But as usual Buzz Rothfield provides no context. It’s also the same when he’s analyzing ratings. The metrics are never consistent. No delineation is drawn between metro and national figures and no mention of whether the sports are exclusive or simulcast deals. He is only beholden to his news corp overlords and has always been a hack. He is just as bad as Annette Sharp and just as accurate as her.

I’m surprised that there aren’t any clips of “National Naan News” on Youtube.

The Sunday Footy Show returns on March 10 at 11am in Sydney and 10am in Brisbane.
