It seems like some of the crowd are sticking around though. If that stay the whole show I think it works quite well for the atmosphere. But they are limited in what they can do, so its mainly post discussion and throwing to packages.
Storm CEO Dave Donaghy tweeted this photo of the crowd at the western stand of AAMI Park watching the show:

Also noticed the show is live into Melbourne on 9GEM tonight too, probably for that reason of it being from Melbourne.
Normally it’s late night on Nine, even when there no AFL Footy Show on that night.
They probably corralled the spectators who stayed into that area of the stands.
Having it live into Melbourne on 9Gem meant no late night replay on the main channel and no HD.
Unless you stream it on 9Now.to get HD.
Already calls to ‘Bring Back the Fat’

Make Beau funny again? He’s never been funny.
Beau was good early on.
Dear Nine.
Love, the rugby league community with IQs greater than the collective number of teeth in the front row.
What Studio do they use for the NRL Footy Show?
Studio 22…if I’m not mistaken.
Yep, as is The Sunday Footy.
Wow the set is small but the studio is so big
Very good points made here by Ray Hadley, as he calls for the name of the show to be changed as it doesn’t resemble Fatty’s 24-year long Footy Show.
JOHNATHAN THURSTON’S BOOTS RAISE $35,515 FOR TATHRA BUSHFIRE VICTIMS AND NSW RURAL FIRE SERVICE
The Footy Show and Johnathan Thurston have raised $35,515 for victims left devastated by the Tathra bushfires in a heartwarming response from the rugby league community tonight.
Joining Erin Molan, Andrew Johns, Ryan Girdler and Brad Fittler live on The Footy Show following the Cowboys clash with the Panthers, Thurston announced the winning bid for the boots worn in his 300th NRL game in round one this season.
“Thank you to everyone who placed a bid on my boots over the last week and thank you to Nine for helping me make this idea become a reality. My thoughts are with all the people of Tathra and hopefully this money goes a small way to easing your pain and your losses. Finally to the Rural Fire Service, what you guys do is selfless and inspiring, thank you,” said Thurston.
Shane Fitzsimmons, the NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner, said: “This is an incredibly heartwarming demonstration of support and I am in admiration of all those involved. The generosity of both Johnathan and the bidders will most certainly help the people of Tathra begin the long road to recovery.”
Adam Wiggins, captain of Tathra Rural Fire Brigade, said: “I speak on behalf of the whole brigade when I express our sincere gratitude for the support shown to the Tathra Rural Fire Brigade. Our members do this job for the love of our community, not for reward or recognition. It is truly humbling to see such a generous gesture. Thank you to JT and Nine, you have helped a very grateful community when it is most needed.”
The winning bid was made by Cowboys supporter Daniel Meneghello, who also owns the boots that Thurston scored his 2000th NRL point in.
Bega Valley Shire Council Mayor, Kristy McBain, said: “Bega Valley Shire Council and the residents of the Tathra district have been overwhelmed by the wonderful support that has come from near and far following the bushfire disaster.
“The generosity of JT and the winning bidder, Daniel, is a wonderful example of this and we appreciate it immensely. I’m sure JT has just become the favourite player of many kids and adults in our area – what a champion!
“What is absolutely vital for the Tathra community is that visitors return and enjoy the town and surrounds as they always have. To that end, our business owners and tourism operators are determined to spread the word that Tathra is open for business again.”
Some caps of the modified set as seen on last nights show:
Main changes are a different coffee table and more detailed panels on the walls. Compare to what it looked like in the first show this year:
It looks like they are also now using the top right WWOS bug instead of the regular Nine watermark, presumably because the show is more of a post-game analysis program than entertainment show.
The set almost seems too blue now, some warmer tones seen in the first incarnation of the new set would be ideal but toned down a little. Not sure that coffee table is an improvement, looks very awkward and pointless. A bigger couch for guests with a single chair for the host would work better IMO, you could see the other host and guests struggling to see either other and almost straining their necks trying to talk to each other last night. Whilst the shift in format is better than it was previously the show lacks any pace or vibe currently even with the studio audience it just feels so flat and lifeless.
Another week another set change…no desk at all this week! But there was a chair for Beau!
