Some resentment that Nine is buying up affordable housing and selling it to the rich making it unaffordable.
Affordable Housing? My god did they see the state of it (as the original Gatwick)?
It was nothing but a giant building of filthy piss that needed to be pulled down. It was a hazard. Some of the worst housing conditions I have seen that people could live in. As reported the old residents who were relocated are living in much BETTER facilities now.
I actually unfollowed Meshel today. She’s not funny anymore on Twitter. She’s just all about political correctness and causes now.
Was a good finale for The Block. Curious the penthouses sold much less than the lower apartments. Wished Norm and Jess took it out, but was probably never going to happen.
People on social media not happy about the winners, saying they possibly cheated. But it it interesting that even though the couples all took home different amounts it kind of equaled out with the reserve prices and how much they got off them in the final weeks. The penthouses both technically took home about $200k each and the bottom apartments $400k but somehow Hayden and Sara took an extra $100k making them win so they ended up getting $200k more than everyone else.
You know what, I kinda get where Meshel is coming from. Throughout the series I wondered if they could have highlighted the history of the building more - good and bad. But I suppose it’s not that kind of show.
Here’s some insightful background for those interested:
It is only because they were edited to be the villains. The editing was awful towards those two this year and those trolls can go jump.
That is how it works on The Block. The winner gets an extra 100k.
Its a fine balance between ensuring the properties are not undervalued and wanting a result - they wouldnt be simple properties to value for a reserve either (it would be rare to get 5 in a line, let alone fully furnished)
Especially on a weekend where the clearance rate was lucky to get over 50%
who had the worst performing apartment in both the main judging and the domain judging
Thank god this show is over for another year.
I agree but i thank nine for airing something worth watching at this time of the year. hopefully next year we have less product placement.
Told you Jess was pregnant. Typical of Sara to steal her thunder though.
No she isn’t. Read this post
Yeah that’s just Jess joking around keeping everyone guessing.
The teams were warned beforehand that they may not get the results they want, yet Kerrie (not Spence) seemed to look angry whenever the auctioneer looked like he was about to sell. All the other teams appeared to be grateful they passed their reserve, but not Kerrie.
Oh give her a break. At the end of the day everyone wants the highest price possible!
Oh I understand that, and I’d want to get the best price too, but she seemed to almost be ungrateful when they were up $150k, rather than being happy to have made so much money.
I didn’t sense that.
I agree. Kerrie definitely wasn’t happy. Scotty had to pretty much persuade her it was “worth going on The Block” for. Spence seemed happy though.
Seems I’m not the only one who felt this way…

Robert Phillpot, co-founder of construction software business Aconex, bought Carla and Bianca and Norm and Jess’ penthouses.
What? You were wrong.
This season will have an interesting epilogue next week but on another network. The Sunday Project on Ten will have a special report titled “The Ghosts of Gatwick” and will talk to former residents of the Gatwick Hotel about their past stays at the accommodation.
