Nine announced at the 2019 upfronts in Perth last night that it would develop a new short form video series based on The Block. The first series, Quick Room Flips with Ronnie and Georgia, will come in early 2019.

Sydney’s Samantha Bolton was announced as the winner of The Block Monopoly competition last night. Tonight on A Current Affair, Samantha and her family will take a tour through the Gatwick apartment.

Mum from Campbelltown wins multi-million-dollar Block apartment
A stay-at-home mother of five from the south-western suburbs of Sydney has won the biggest prize ever given away in the history of Australian television.
Samantha Bolton, 45, from Woodbine near Campbelltown, is the lucky winner of a multi-million-dollar Block Gatwick apartment.
The apartment was renovated by contestants on the most recent series of Nine’s long-running, top-rating renovation reality program.
Samantha won the ultimate prize by getting the winning golden ticket in her box of MONOPOLY – The Block Special Edition .
“I am in total shock, it’s so hard to believe I have won,” said Samantha, who purchased the winning game from Big W in Bega.
“I actually can’t comprehend it. It has not sunk in yet. I have to keep pinching myself. I haven’t won anything since the lolly jar competition in grade two. I am just overwhelmed. It’s incredible and life changing. Our family are massive fans of The Block , but never in a million years did I think we’d win.”
Host of The Block , Scott Cam, was overjoyed at Samantha’s huge windfall.
“When I heard that the winner was a true-blue Aussie battler from the suburbs I couldn’t have been happier. This year’s Blockheads put their heart and soul into creating this magnificent property and Samantha will go down in the history books as its proud owner,” Scotty said.
The Block -themed edition of the world’s favourite board game was a runaway success and a popular stocking filler in the lead-up to Christmas.
All 14 seasons of properties on The Block are featured on the limited-edition game, with Dux House in Albert Park replacing the famous and coveted Mayfair address.

Ronnie and Georgia proudly wear the crown of most room reveal wins in any series of The Block . Now they will be put to a new test as they battle the clock to deliver covetable rooms and answer the needs of growing families desperate to refresh their homes, but not knowing where to start.

The 2019 season began filming on Friday at the former Oslo Backpackers Hotel in St Kilda, according to the Sunday Herald Sun.
EDIT: co-creator Julian Cress told the paper of the massive hurdles that stood in the way of auction success, such as the sheer scale of each apartment, the credit squeeze resulting from the Banking Royal Commission, the fall in median house prices in St Kilda area over the past 12 months, and recent crimes in the area.

The hype begins. Hope this show goes downhill fast.
Walked passed today. Contestants are allowed to pull i front of the Oslo to drop things off. But doesn’t look like they park near. Must be close to a room reveal as contestants were bringing in items to furnish.

Port Phillip City mayor Dick Gross said the council received 47 complaints from St Kilda residents over the development of the Oslo Hotel for the new season of The Block, which had just finished filming. Some residents say The Block was aiding the “bastardisation of Fitzroy Street”.

This week’s New Idea reports that Kylie Minogue made a secret visit to The Block set during her concert tour back in March this year.
The Block is set to commence in August.
