EPISODE 9: SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, AT 7.00PM ON CHANNEL 9 AND 9NOW
Tonight, on The Block, the race to finish the family bathroom and powder room became even more intense with a $250,000 kitchen upgrade from E&S on the line. With identical floorplans across the uptown and downtown houses, the teams needed smart layout decisions, strong finishes and flawless execution to stand out, but Super Saturday quickly exposed who was on track and who was in trouble.
Courtney and Sev in House 4 faced the biggest workload, with tiling, waterproofing, plastering, ceilings and skylight work still unfinished. Lisa and Rosco in House 3 were hit by a tiling disaster when the fall to the drain was wrong, forcing them to abandon hopes of completing both spaces and focus on showing the judges the direction of their powder room. Chantel and Wyatt in House 2 were confident and looked like frontrunners, while Rick and Tayla in House 5 slipped badly behind despite starting strongly. Dan extended tools down to 5pm, then added an extra hour on Sunday morning, a decision that frustrated Chantel and Wyatt because they felt it only helped teams still relying on trades.
The Cursio Bros became the week’s most wanted trades, with multiple teams asking for help, but their loyalty stayed with House 2 unless Chantel and Wyatt approved otherwise. After Lisa and Rosco declined late assistance, Wyatt allowed the Cursio’s to help House 4, adding tension because Courtney and Sev are direct competitors. Rosco also struck a deal with House 4, he and his chippie would help them finish, and if Courtney and Sev won, they would pay for tiling of House 3’s bathroom and powder room. The deal angered Jolene, who felt Courtney and Sev had criticised Rosco behind his back yet were happy to use his help.
By tools down, House 4 Courtney and Sev pulled off a major comeback and completed their family bathroom with borrowed help. House 2 Courtney and Wyatt finished and remained confident, House 1 Adam and Jolene completed their room despite still scrambling on Sunday morning, House 5 Rick and Tayla were unfinished, and House 3 Lisa and Rosco had effectively stopped the day before after realising they could not make the deadline.
At judging, Chantel and Wyatt won the CommBank budget challenge prize of $10,000.
House 1’s Adam and Jolene impressed with finishes and styling, but the judges felt their layout changes did not work, particularly the removal of the powder room door. Marty believed buyers would still respond well to the bathroom. Their budget estimate was $18,733.50 and cash spend was $37,816.82.
House 2’s Chantel and Wyatt delivered a hidden toilet and polished finishes, but the judges questioned the clashing entry and powder room doors, saying a cavity slider would have worked better. Marty liked the wall sconces but disliked that the shaving cabinets were not recessed, while Shaynna praised the luxury tapware, vanity and bath but criticised the placement. Their budget estimate was $25,145.95 and cash spend was $29,565.75.
House 3’s Lisa and Rosco could not recover from their tiling issue, leaving the judges disappointed because it cost them the chance to compete properly. Darren called it heartbreaking, but Marty found a positive in what he considered the best layout so far because it clearly created both a bathroom and powder room. Darren loved the vanity and Shaynna loved the tapware. Their budget estimate was $20,102.12 and cash spend was $36,342.54.
House 4’s Courtney and Sev won praise for their floorplan, perfectly positioned powder room cavity slider and high-impact finishes. Marty said they “just get it”, Shaynna loved the basin and champagne titanium tapware, and Darren was impressed by the Velux and tiles. The judges did flag missing power points, but Shaynna called the functionality perfection. Their spend raised questions, with a budget estimate of $20,700.25 and cash spend of $53,272.33.
House 5’s Rick and Tayla ended the week unfinished, with the bathroom only around 70% complete, but the judges saw signs of improvement. Marty liked the practical direction, Darren thought the plan was sensible but possibly too safe, and Shaynna praised the wall and floor tiles, saying they were on a better trajectory than the week before. Their budget estimate was $17,740.00 and cash spend $11,065.51.
In the final scores, House 4 Courtney and Sev completed the biggest comeback of the week, winning $10,000 from Chery and the $250,000 E&S kitchen upgrade. House 1 Adam and Jolene finished second, followed by House 2 Chantel and Wyatt, House 5 Rick and Tayla, and House 3 Lisa and Rosco in last place. Scott raised concerns with Courtney and Sev about their heavy cash spend, while Jolene was left frustrated that House 4 had benefited from extra help after her team had pushed through without borrowed trades.

Is The Block not being quite as well received this year? Or is it just the usual slower start? Or comparing to Married which goes insane (because obviously that averages up around and over the 2m viewer mark). A Block ep the other day was only just on 1m and beaten by H&A and The Voice was very close.

EPISODE 13: SUNDAY, AUGUST 23
With main bedroom and walk-in robe reveals only hours away, the Blockheads race to finish their rooms by tools down on Sunday morning. With a recommended budget of $20,000 uptown Houses 1, 2 and 3 each had around 40sqm to complete, while downtown Houses 4 and 5 each had around 31sqm. Across the site, teams were still painting, installing carpet, fitting off electrical, hanging curtains, sanding plaster and styling under intense time pressure.
The lead-up was especially tense for House 4 Courtney and Sev, whose fireplace wall disaster forced them to pull apart framing, repair bowed studs, replaster, dry and prepare the surface in time for wallpaper. House 1 Adam and Jolene were racing to the end, House 2 Chantel and Wyatt pushed through painting and wardrobe execution, House 5 Rick and Tayla dealt with Venetian plastering and curtain issues, and House 3 Lisa and Rosco entered reveal feeling quietly confident, with renewed motivation after sharing they were expecting another child.
At tools down, every team finished except Courtney and Sev, who were disappointed not to make Block history by taking out a trifecta of room wins. Scott then raised the stakes, announcing that the season winner would receive their auction profit and $100,000, plus a growing prize pool launched with a Plungie Pool and $50,000 cash. Courtney and Sev still secured one win for the week, taking out the CommBank Budget Challenge and $10,000.
Judging with Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox opened strongly for House 1 Adam and Jolene, whose rendered wall, wardrobe storage and elevated palette impressed the judges, although Shaynna felt the bedroom was slightly over styled; their budget estimate was $19,985.85 and cash spend was $27,975.08. House 2 Chantel and Wyatt divided the judges, the robe was bright but under-styled and clinical, while the bedroom was praised for its simplicity, high-standard Venetian plaster and strong response to the brief; their budget estimate was $29,500.00 and cash spend was $35,933.52. House 3 Lisa and Rosco delivered the week’s standout, with a quiet luxury robe, coastal detailing, natural light, lime plaster, curves, practical bedside choices and a controlled palette that the judges considered close to perfect; their budget estimate was $27,000.00 and cash spend was $28,560.50.
House 4 Courtney and Sev’s judging was difficult, with the judges calling out unfinished work, a filthy robe, poor tiling, cold lighting, unresolved ceiling detail and an overall lack of refinement, despite some praise for the bedhead and flooring detail; their budget estimate was $21,515.00 and cash spend was $22,176.77. House 5 Rick and Tayla impressed with skylights, a soaring ceiling, herringbone flooring, architectural curves, warm Venetian plaster and strong artwork, but the judges questioned some expensive choices and felt the styling, bedside lights and tables didn’t work and they obviously had some issues with their curtain length but they gained praise for their remote-controlled block out blinds; their budget estimate was $21,950.00 and cash spend was $25,350.59.
The week ultimately belonged to Lisa and Rosco, whose main bedroom and walk-in robe delivered the most cohesive and emotionally resolved result. Adam and Jolene and Chantel and Wyatt were also strong contenders, Rick and Tayla showed architectural ambition but needed tighter styling, and Courtney and Sev’s bold vision was undermined by the late fireplace setback and poor execution with the judges describing their room as a high-end coffin.

Tonight it is main ensuite reveals, who will make it across the finish line, who will admit defeat and who has come up with a winning formula.
A frantic main ensuite week comes down to the final 24 hours, with every team battling time, budget and unfinished details. House 4 Courtney is hungover and struggling to stay focused, while House 1 Adam and Jolene look out of the race after sacking their tiler—until Wyatt agrees to lend them the Cursio Brothers, putting House 1 back in contention. House 2 Chantel and Wyatt remain the calmest team, already styling their light, bright and luxurious ensuite, while House 3 Lisa and Rosco push through a complex rustic design with micro-cement walls, a timber vanity and time-consuming faux crazy-pave flooring and House 5 Rick and Tayla decide to dump time consuming venetian plaster finishes and paint instead.
House 4’s Courtney and Sev deliver their signature textured look with micro-cement walls and a dramatic shower seat, but the feature raises questions about practicality and spending. In House 3, Lisa and Rosco are slowed by the intricate faux crazy-pave floor, locking in to complete as much as they can before tools down. In House 5, Rick is determined to redeem himself after an earlier unfinished bathroom, taking on too much work himself while Tayla fights to prove her styling instincts. I’m not even remotely surprised. Its bloody reality TV garbage. And considering the producer has now decided to go trigger happy with generative AI being used for jingles, songs and animation stuff for the show, it makes me wanna puke.
Trust me, I’ve never seen an episode of the show until now for research purposes, but after watching this episode, I NEVER want to see The Block on TV ever again.

Tonight, The Block’s biggest living, dining and terrace reveal delivered spectacular views but exposed one major flaw judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox could not ignore. Rick’s medical drama took him off site and Dan and Dani welcome baby Fletcher James Riley to the world.
With just over 24 hours to reveal, the teams scrambled to finish enormous living, dining and terrace spaces. House 3 brought in Rosco’s dad Jim on minimum wage to help with cladding, sanding, and plaster, while Lisa chased homewares and styling. House 2 Chantle and Wyatt felt unusually behind, House 1 Adam and Jolene feel they are in a reasonable position with the rest of their flooring going down, House 5 Rick and Tayla pushed ahead with an outdoor sink, premium BBQ and Tayla’s slushie machine, and House 4 Courtney and Sev chose “quiet luxury” without a fireplace to protect a shrinking budget.
Weather, health and fairness became the episode’s pressure points. Rick was ordered off site after a knee infection left him needing antibiotics and rest, prompting Scott to call in British Paints’ Tim and Krissy to help Tayla paint. Courtney and Sev were sympathetic but frustrated, arguing that painting help cuts close to The Block’s number one rule.
At judging, Scott noted Rick’s overnight hospital stay and shared happier news, Dan and Dani had welcomed baby boy Fletcher James Riley. He also added a Bar Crusher Boat worth $80,000.00 to the Plungie Prize pool, taking the package beyond $250,000.00, before announcing House 2 Chantel and Wyatt’s second consecutive CommBank Budget award.

House 2 — Chantel and Wyatt: The judges found the space cold, empty and too vanilla for a multi-million-dollar home.
