The Block

2027 Upfronts

THE BLOCK

In 2027, Australia’s biggest renovation show, The Block is taking on the most ambitious project in the show’s history. Its 23rd season sees contestants tackle epic heritage restorations after two years of new builds.

Channel 9 has acquired three grand heritage buildings from the Victorian Government, kickstarting a new future for Jacksons Hill in Sunbury, Victoria.

The historic site boasts some of the state’s oldest and most magnificent heritage architecture. The buildings were constructed 170 years ago in gold rush times as an industrial school, becoming a psychiatric hospital and most recently, a university campus.

Just 40 minutes northwest of Melbourne’s CBD, Sunbury is a historic community that captures a “little bit city, a little bit country” feel. Picturesque rolling hills, vineyards and its legacy as the birthplace of The Ashes give the area a distinct township charm.

Returning to co-host, Scott Cam and Shelley Craft will challenge five new teams to preserve and revitalise these landmark buildings while transforming them into The Block’s signature high-quality and aspirational family homes.

The Block: The House Next Door, premiering in 2027 on Stan will give Blockheads plenty to talk about when fan-favourite all-stars tackle a sixth renovation over the fence.

The Block is a Nine production in conjunction with Cavalier Television.

STAN: The Block: The House Next Door

It’s time for the ultimate extension of Australia’s favourite renovation show, with The Block: The House Next Door premiering in 2027. Just over the fence from the five main couples, a team of fan-favourite all-stars will be tackling a sixth property. Week after week, these seasoned pros will renovate the same rooms as the main cast, culminating in reveals shown exclusively on Stan. The Block: The House Next Door will be the ultimate expansion for Blockheads.

The Herald Sun understands contestants will work across Buildings 1, 2 and 3 on the eastern side of the former Victoria University campus.

A Victorian Planning Authority study identifies them as the former Female Infirmary Ward, Female Admission and Special Wards building, and former hospital.

Sunbury is such a bizzare choice. Infrarstructure alone - getting in and out is horrific.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20

Tonight time is running out and with everything on the line the gloves come off and later one kitchen will stand out from the rest to take home this week’s massive $100,000 prize as judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox arrive on site.

Ahead of tonight’s reveals despite it being a public holiday there is no rest for the Blockheads as this massive week gets down to the pointy end not only are they are presenting the kitchen, but also a butler’s pantry, a powder room and lift. House 3 Lisa and Rosco are in chaos there are trades working everywhere and Foreperson Leonie steps in to restore order. House 2 Chantel and Wyatt have a hardware issue with the cabinetry and need different colour handles. House 4 Courtney and Sev are hustling for wine donation from Crittenden Wines, House 1 Adam and Jolene have a clever Grafico wallpaper detail in their lift and House 5 are desperately running out of time.

On Saturday evening Tayla calls a body corporate for an extra two hours and the gloves come off not everyone is on the same page, and some are not willing to help Rick who is still struggling with his knee. Courtney and Sev believe he should be subbed out as they have plenty of family and friends who can help. Tayla retaliates by saying they have video footage of Tim from British Paints painting their kitchen which gives the girls cause to dig their heels in, Jolene not happy with the way she is being spoken to also is not budging and Chantel and Wyatt eventually call it and say no to extra time they would prefer more sleep causing Lisa and Rosco to wonder why other teams wouldn’t help with the extra time.

Scott calls tools down with the judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox arriving on site, at judging and winner announce Scott announces extra prizes a 100” LG television and Sonos sound system from JB Hi-Fi are added to the Plungie prize pool and the $10,000 CommBank Better Budgeting Award goes to House 3 Lisa and Rosco.

In judging, House 1 Adam and Jolene the judges were highly impressed by the kitchen’s luxury, cohesion, and attention to detail, especially the Grafico treatment through the lift and lift shaft and the large Dekton Ava stone island bench. They weren’t a fan of the copper tapware in the powder room the budget estimate $23,519.44 and cash spend $25,281.82. House 2 Chantel and Wyatt they love the stone and detail on the back wall is stunning and styled to perfection however they all feel the space feels cold and there are functionality issues in the butler’s pantry. Budget estimate $20,000 and cash spend $27,713.37.

House 3 Lisa and Rosco the judges were wowed by the sheer scale of the island bench and loved the dark walnut timber cabinetry, and the butler’s pantry delivers everything a butler’s needs and they think buyers will fight for this one. Budget estimate $21,154.76 cash spend $21,311.69. House 4 Courtney and Sev once again the judges are impressed by the length of the island bench and they have leaned into the appliances well with curves in the cabinetry, they don’t like the doors on the butler’s pantry but think the powder room is gorgeous. Budget estimate $22,555.00 cash spend $23,584.41

House 5 Rick and Tayla the judges love the backlit splashback and combined with the living space once it is finished will be exceptional. They praise Rick’s building expertise with the treatment of the perimeter of the Velux sky lights and give Tayla her dues for her best styled space to date. Budget estimate $16,000.00 cash spend $21,744.98

Scores Adam and Jolene play their bonus point gnome as there is $100,000 on the line tonight. The winners of week seven on The Block 2026 and taking home the massive prize is House 1 Adam and Jolene which also comes with a super luxury getaway tomorrow night thanks to Chery – they’re staying the night on a $1.2 million dollar boat on the bay.

In second place is House 3 Lisa and Rosco on 28 ½ points, House 4 Courtney and Sev coming in third with 27 ½ points followed by House 5 Rick and Tayla on 25 ½ points and coming in last is House 2 Chantel and Wyatt with 23 points.

I’ve missed a few episodes so I hope someone will be able to answer my question. Wyatt taped off a lot of the plants so he could get them all for his property. Rick took two(?) olive trees from the ones Wyatt wanted. Rick made a comment about a challenge that involved the trees, could someone please explain what happened? I assumed that Rick and Tayla won more of the challenge and therefore the trees were mean to be for them. Is this correct? Thanks.

Correct each week the teams do a challenge for plants

I noted this on the cheap seats, I was thought it was a joke or something. Clearly not.

Weird choice indeed. I actually thought it might be a good opportunity for the show to trial a season interstate. Certainly would be interesting to see what happens to local ratings in another state, even for just one season. I don’t think Nine is too keen on taking risks in the current climate though.

I thought the failure of the regional Victoria season with poor sales might have stopped them from doing more regional stuff, especially in contrast to where the current season is being done. You can’t go on this show anymore expecting to walk away cash rich.

EPISODE 37: MONDAY, OCTOBER 5

Tonight it’s a double room reveal, kid’s bedroom and re-do room with a massive $20,000 up for grabs the pressure to deliver is sending everyone loopy. Could it be second time lucky for their re-do rooms or is it a big miss and will the secret gnome come into play.

This week has been a week of battles which all started with a dirty bowl, House 2 Chantel and Wyatt retaliated with their own note and a text message to House 4 Courtney and Sev letting them know that everyone was ripping into them about their 10’s, Sev got upset and Lisa was caught in the firing line. The ultimate battle was the Domain Buyer’s Jury and Listing challenge, House 1 Adam and Jolene were the victors, and they won $50,000 but more battles were sparked and questions were raised what is inspiration and what is copying? Do House 2 Chantel and Wyatt have a secret buyer? And will House 4 Courtney and Sev get their rooftop terrace approved and deliver the final Block knockout? It’s certainly been a week, and it is not over yet.

It’s Saturday morning and 24 hours until kids’ bedroom and re-do room reveal and the last week they are working on the interiors of the house. On top of the sponsors and Block Bucks Scott suggested a cash budget of $20,000 to deliver this week’s room the only designated kid’s bedroom on top of that Domain threw the Blockheads an additional $10,000 each to re-do room which didn’t go well with the judges the first time around. All that on top of Domain Buyer’s Jury and Listing challenge and preparing for the upcoming weeks outside.

Sunday morning arrives and a special visitor arrives on The Block Dan and Dani’s baby Fletcher. Scott calls tools down and judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox arrive on site. At Judging and winner announce Scott announces this week’s prize is a big one a Kinsman kitchen to the value of $50,000, wine from Levantine Hill valued at $10,000, a year’s supply of Arnott’s biscuits and if that isn’t enough $10,000 of flooring from Flooring Xtra to be added to the Plungie prize pool tipping the total over $400,000. Scott then announces the $10,000 CommBank Better Budgeting Award goes to House 2 Chantel and Wyatt.

Judges feedback, House 1 Adam and Jolene the judges stepped into your room today and were disappointed not to see a kid’s bedroom and question the design without any built-in wardrobes. Into the re-do room week one guest room and they feel not much has changed it is another lazy room ouch their budget estimate was $13,800.00 and cash spend $16,734.34. House 2 Chantel and Wyatt on entry the judges are once again annoyed they have missed the kid’s bedroom brief and feel the styling is a bit lazy, nothing matches it is a big miss the annoyance increases tenfold when in the re-do living and dining they discover they haven’t taken their advice to flip the room to take in the view. Marty calls them “Ask Holes” they ask for advice and you give to them and it goes down the hole. Budget estimate $14,000 cash spend $14,319.10.

House 3 Lisa and Rosco and the judges are thrilled to see a kid’s bedroom everything here is simple, but you think kid’s bedroom that they can grow into being an adult. They love the thought that has gone into the wardrobe design and consistent style, colour and texture palette. Into the guest suite re-do room the success continues they think it is one of the nicest bedrooms on The Block a big success. Budget estimate $16,395.44 cash spend $14,016.33. House 4 Courtney and Sev the judges certainly found a kid’s bedroom it’s the first room they’ve seen on The Block that has colour and it is perfectly executed, they love the CSR sound style wave bedhead and the attention to detail, it is the one percenter’s that set them apart. Into the re-do living, and dining and they shout yes from no fireplace to one of the best and note the mirror in the exact same position as House 1. Budget estimate $12,255.15 and cash spend $11,920.00

House 5 Rick and Tayla on entry the judges note no door handle, they like the like the Grafico pampas grass wallpaper and agree it is a successful tween room but feel it is forgettable and unfinished and they don’t understand a pendant light with a lamp underneath. Into the re-do living, dining and alfresco and they are pleased there is much less of a dance floor on display they love the artwork and the change in couch but feel it is half done. Budget estimate$11,984.70 cash spend $11,523.00.

Onto scores and the winner of week nine on The Block 2026 and taking home $10,000 from Chery and another $10,000 from Domain with a perfect score is House 4 Courtney and Sev taking home $50,000 and their fifth win. Coming in second on a score of 29 is House 3 Lisa and Rosco and in equal third on 21 ½ points is House 1 Adam and Jolene and House 5 Rick and Tayla with House 2 Chantel and Wyatt coming in last place with a score of 17 ½. Thanks to Chery the girls will be heading on a getaway to 10 Minutes By Tractor.
