I wonder why they didn’t charter a plane like has been done recently in the US version. It would’ve prevented Angel getting bumped onto another flight, and with up to 20 teams, plus a camera operator and sound recordist with each team I would’ve thought it would’ve been more cost effective. Then again, I’ve never had to charter a plane so I could be sooo wrong!
That is the issue with a private flight - they would need a full size jet. The biggest private jets usually handle between 10 and 20 depending on make. Once you get to full size it is possibly US$20,000 per hour and it’s a 5 hour flight. Much cheaper to get tickets at say US$600 each.
Lauren and Steph were the only team staying in COVID isolation as of tonight’s episode, with the other four teams returning to the race in Belize.
Holy Toledo!
Fliss And Tottie Retire From The Amazing Race Australia.
On tonight’s epic leg in The Amazing Race Australia, teams raced to Toledo, helping a local Maya school to repair their greenhouse, replacing torn roof sheeting, removing weeds, adding new plants, and squealing at tarantulas. Tiffany and Cynthia were feeling the heat and contemplated taking a penalty, before managing to complete the challenge.
In the spirit of keeping things fair, the four teams returning to The Race from their stint in quarantine, had to complete a Speed Bump involving cleaning classroom furniture. And they thought iso was hard.
For their next challenge, teams faced a Detour. Teams who choose the Maya Ball Game, known as Pok-a-tok, could now be famous on Tik-Tok after watching them contort their bodies, sans hands, in order to propel the ball through the hand-held hoop. Teams who chose the Maya Quiz had to complete a Sudoku style puzzle. Sadly, Country Kids, Fliss and Tottie, never made it to the challenge after a devastating twisted ankle on a jungle track forced them to retire from The Race.
At the next challenge, teams had to memorise the eighteen symbols of the ancient Maya calendar, canoe along the Macal River to collect engraved stone symbols that matched each month, before assembling the stones in the right order to create the calendar. Pako and Mori scribbled down the symbols on a piece of paper, but when their boat capsized, they were up the sh!t creek without their paper. Engaged Parents, Chelsea and Jamus, struggled with the task, but after many attempts, managed to nail it. What they didn’t nail, was remembering to engage the hand break on their car.
Teams raced through stunning ruins to meet Beau at the tomb of ancient Maya kings. Heath and Toni reached the top of the hill first, Jamus nearly fell off said hill, and Jodie and Claire were last to the hill. But good news, despite coming in last, the mums will race another day!
Tomorrow night, our remaining eight teams are off to Caye Caulker.
Fliss was so unlucky. Fresh out of COVID quarantine, she rolled her ankle running to a detour and had to retire hurt.
I recognised the scene from a promo earlier this year.
What’s with all the cleaning challenges? Washing furniture, cleaning animal shit, cleaning bottles. Is there seriously no better challenges on offer? It really doesn’t make for compelling television.
Pretty gross and unhygienic they offered an eating challenge straight after a feces challenge.
I did laugh when they said Fliss and Totty couldn’t compete because one of them was injured and they couldn’t race the race solo, yet we just saw Frankie do it by himself. Gotta love those hypocritical rules.
The steel drum challenge was nice, but yet another repeated challenge from the US seasons.
Sad to see Flick & Gabby go. They seemed lovely and genuine.
The Mayan ruins looked breathtaking.
Angel continues to be a pain. Has she ever carried her bag for any serious length of time? She’s also really lagging behind on completing her roadblocks. I would have thought Amazing Race Australia would have fixed this by now.
I’ll be shocked if Angel & Franky don’t win. Their edit seems very rosy and contrived.
I can’t help but like Chelsea and her hen pecking ways. They feel like a really old school team. So much for leaving Jamus alone for a leg. Is it ever her fault? My favourite moment is still her screaming at Jamus not to talk to her climbing up the stairs and then a few seconds later stops and asks him to stop and soak in the view. Honourable mention of the car dragging on the ground due to Jamus’ weight and her telling him no eating during that leg.
Good to see this dumpster fire season getting burnt off early. Though Ten’s replacement shows look even worse.
What A Caulker!
Jodie and Claire From NSW. Eliminated From The Amazing Race Australia.
Here’s what went down on tonight’s epic instalment of The Amazing Race Australia. Teams foot raced for one of two boats leaving 15 mins apart for Caye Caulker. In this challenge, teams fed the local fish, but these weren’t your typical household Gold Fish, these whoppers could weigh up to 160kg. Luckily (for some), the first boat managed to finish feeding before boat two even arrived.
The sharks were getting FOMO, so it was time to get up close and personal with the locals. This Roadblock saw one member from each team snorkel and hold their breath in shark and string ray infested waters to retrieve a marked conch shell. Kelly and Georgia raced to the front while Angel had a shark-sized panic, causing them to lose the time advantage they gained from being on the first boat.
Next up, it was a Detour choice between twerking tooshies or twirling tresses. While Kelly and Georgia struggled to complete the eight cornrow braids, Tiffany and Cynthia used their braiding skills to nail the challenge. Meanwhile, Pako and Mori boogied through the traditional booty shaking moves with no hesitation at all.
In the next Roadblock involving slow-mo bike riding while transporting coconuts, Pako and Mori and Heath and Toni managed to maintain their advantage, setting up a two horse race to the finish line.
Jodie and Claire struggled with the bike ride but were given a lifeline thanks to Lauren and Steph returning from isolation and having to complete a Speed Bump.
It was another foot race battle to the picturesque Pit Stop. Heath and Toni beat out Pako and Mori for first place, and in the race to stay in the race, Lauren and Steph were just too strong for Jodie and Claire, keeping them around for another leg while Jodie and Claire were sent packing.
Is this the first time in The Amazing Race Australia history that a contestant completed two roadblocks in one day?
Maybe they shouldn’t have got Covid then
Because they chose to get it didn’t they…seriously some people on this website are clueless.
I really hope that no-one in the four teams that have raced the entire way get covid because with only seven teams left I think that will mean the end of their race.
Angel and Frankie have one of the weirdest team dynamics I can recall on a team. If you didn’t know better you’d think they were a couple they was they talk and act towards each other.
Teams Ride The Mexican Wave.
Chelsea and Jamus Saved In Non-Elimination Leg Of The Amazing Race Australia.
Let’s taco bout what went down in tonight’s excellent episode of The Amazing Race Australia.
Teams travelled from Belize to Campeche in the Gulf of Mexico. When in a new country, it’s always important to try the local delicacies, but our teams weren’t ready for this menu. One member of each team was blindfolded and dined on a Tarantula, Hissing Cockroach, Scorpion and Crickets.
At the piñata challenge, Lauren and Steph were bang on target, finding the specially marked lolly quick smart. Fast forward four hours, Kelly and Georgia were still lolly-less, deciding to take a time penalty and hoping to never be invited to a five year old’s birthday party ever again.
At the next challenge, the teams’ attention to detail was put to the test, having to memorise colours of the local buildings and sort the matching cards into a specific order. A handful of teams nailed it after some trial and error, but then had to work together with a larger group to get to the next stop when their navigation systems decided not to work.
Using fibres from their recently harvested henequen plants, teams had to make five metres of rope. With only one working rope machine, most teams needed multiple attempts, but knot Pako and Mori, who managed to learn the ropes ahead of the pack.
All Roadblocks are not created equal. This one saw teams free diving to the bottom of a stunning, naturally occurring, sink hole. For Chelsea, there was no time for enjoyment thanks to her fear of water, but after several attempts she threw herself into the deep end and managed to retrieve the clue.
Teams then raced their way to the Pit Stop, where Pako and Mori took out first place only to be told it was a Virtual Pit Stop and they needed to keep racing. Chelsea and Jamus came in last but thanks to the non-elimination leg, they lived to race another day.
Tomorrow night, as The Race continues through Mexico, teams will turn on each other, leaving some in real trouble.
The sink hole was absolutely stunning.
The Race That Just Keeps On Racing.
Chelsea And Jamus From QLD, Eliminated From The Amazing Race Australia.
Virtual Pit Stop after Virtual Pit Stop, The Amazing Race Australia, just won’t stop, literally.
From Campeche, our racers continued through to Merida with the first two teams to arrive having the power to U-turn another team each. What’s a U-turn you ask? This means the unlucky chosen teams will be required to do both sides of the Detour. Pako and Mori arrived first and U-turned Lauren and Steph, while Toni and Heath arrived second and gave the U-turn to Tiffany and Cynthia.
At the cactus taco Detour, the cacti weren’t the only things that were prickly after Tiffany and Cynthia turned up to do part one of their U-turn. Thankfully Heath and Toni were the first team to leave after successfully making five tacos, meaning they avoided crossing paths with their U-turn victims.
Last night they were eating cockroaches, and tonight they were singing about them. For the chorus Detour, teams had to sing a verse in Spanish of the classic song La Cucaracha and perform with a Mariachi Band. Pako and Mori nailed the challenge before Lauren and Steph turned up to attempt the first part of their U-turn.
On the way to the next challenge located at a cemetery, Heath, Toni, Lauren and Steph all made a grave mistake, getting horribly lost, allowing the other teams to get ahead. Once at the cemetery, each team member had to paint a Day of the Dead Calavera design perfectly onto their partner’s face. Tiffany and Cynthia used their make-up skills to make-up the time, successfully completing the task first.
Teams then journeyed down a traditional Mexican street lined with paper flags, tasked with counting all light pink coloured flags. The teams were anything but tickled pink, having failed numerous attempts to identify the correct number. Eventually, Toni guessed the right number and was given her next clue. She then shared the correct answer with the rest of the teams making it an all-teams race to the finish.
At the Pit Stop, Kelly and Georgia narrowly beat Heath and Toni for first place before being told they would all need to continue racing in the second back-to-back Virtual Pit Stop. Teams will once again not rest before the next leg, but one team who didn’t have to worry about that was Chelsea and Jamus who were unfortunately last to step on to the mat and were subsequently eliminated from The Race.
On Sunday, six exhausted teams push on through Mexico, but with another potential elimination looming, every decision counts.
Another first in The Amazing Race Australia history: consecutive virtual pit stops.
What was the point of having a double u turn, only to have the next task not starting until the following morning?
I can only assume they were hoping to cause drama, but they didn’t even manage that.
Cop Couple Can’t Reach The Pit Stop.
Lauren And Steph From WA, Eliminated From The Amazing Race Australia.
Following yet another Virtual Pit Stop, teams drove to the colonial town of Izamal, known as the yellow city of Mexico, for the next leg of The Amazing Race Australia.
After enjoying the sights of the mustard-coloured buildings, our racers landed at their first challenge. Teams had to memorise and perform a Traditional Yucatan Dance - but not just any traditional dance, it was the Traditional Yucatan Bottle Dance, which involves balancing a bottle on top of your noggin. While some racers were getting flashbacks to their party days, Angel and Frankie were able to find their centre of balance first and nail the task to get the next clue.
With Tiffany and Cynthia hot on their tails, and the other teams not too far behind, Angel and Frankie arrived at Convento de San Antonio de Padua where everyone’s maths skills were put to the test. The teams had to count the interior and exterior arches surrounding the atrium, and then use these numbers to work out an equation to find the name of an intersection and marked door in the city, before heading to the location by horse and carriage.
Being a maths teacher, Kelly thought he had this challenge in the bag, but when working together with other teams, it all got a bit confusing with too many cooks in the kitchen. They eventually worked out the puzzle, with Pako and Mori and Lauren and Steph bringing up the rear, before moving onto a Roadblock.
This next challenge put the handbrake on all the teams that were steaming ahead. Sew much embroidery, sew little time! A member of each team was faced with a needle and thread to complete an embroidered flower design. Pako and Mori, who were one of the last teams to arrive, knocked it out of the park to leave first, with Angel and Frankie, Heath and Toni and Tiffany and Cynthia close behind and racing to the Pit Stop. Eventually Lauren and Steph got the all clear, leaving Kelly and Georgia struggling on their own, before also finally working their magic on the fabric in front of them.
To reach the spec-taco-lar Pit Stop location, teams hopped on bikes to get to the Cenote X-Canche. All teams ziplined and swam to Beau’s floating mat. Toni and Health checked in first, while tenacious newlyweds, Kelly and Georgia made up a spot in the race to the Pit Stop to secure second last place. Unfortunately for our cop couple, Lauren and Steph, the Cenote was too dark and unsafe for them to take part in the final stage of the leg, with Beau meeting them mid-cycle to pass on their elimination fate.
With now just five teams racing for the ultimate prize, our teams are getting serious. Who will we see make it to the Pit Stops in time this week? Find out when the teams return to Australia for the next stage of The Amazing Race Australia.
Continues Tomorrow At 7.30pm On 10 And 10 Play.
New opener tonight featuring the final five teams and highlights from previous episodes.
Season 4 winner Tim and Rod are live tweeting during the show’s broadcast in Sydney and Melbourne this week.
Swan Bell Tower in Perth CBD, which featured in one of the tasks, was last visited by the US version of The Amazing Race (season 9) in late November 2005.
