WTF? Five teams quarantining out of twelve. What bullshit. That’s seven teams that have had Covid. You might as well just pick the winner out of a hat, it would probably be fairer. All the teams that have raced since the start are no doubt exhausted, but hey some teams got covid and Georgia had gastro and lost 4 kgs. I’m sure Jamus lost more than that on the last leg alone.
Not the teams fault but it was obvious this season was going to be an unfair shitshow back when it was announced, but the usual network defenders thought it wouldn’t be a problem filming a race mingling with with locals in the middle of a pandemic with clearly no covid precautions. That’s channel 10 for you though.
Now we’re back to the arbitrary time penalties. I know it was a non elimination, but they still could have kept the consistency from when the race began. To at least keep the illusion of it being fair and the race not being rigged.
Why even bother doing any of the tasks, just take a time penalty and you’ll come in first!
I can’t help but feel for Jake & Holly who went home on a 30 minute penalty. They must be super pissed to see a 10 minute penalty & a 15 minute penalty.
Also what’s with so many challenges being reused from the US edition. Fez twirling, Gunpowder game in Columbia etc.
Heath And Toni Race Another Day On The Amazing Race Australia.
The teams headed to Medellin Colombia, where Chelsea and Jamus hit a hurdle on their way to the first Challenge.
Having to pull their little car over for Jamus to jump in the front seat to stop a tyre from bursting, they were off again to find the other teams at La Piedra del Peñol to climb a bunch of stairs.
Small spaces combined with lack of air due to the altitude saw most teams struggle.
Angel and Frankie were once again in first place with Chelsea and Jamus completing the climb, only to realise their taxi had done a runner leaving them stranded.
Choosing Bunch, Angel and Frankie chose the flower arranging Detour, Pako and Mori chose Brew, sorting through unroasted coffee beans to find five letters.
Being master sorters, The Hubbies were off to the Road Block to try the local delicacy of eyeball salad and pigs intestine and tongue.
Angel and Frankie passed their finished bouquet to Stuart and Glennon, leaving Toni and Heath seething, while Chelsea and Jamus who sorted beans, threw in the towel and opted for a time penalty.
Nailing the eating challenge, Pako and Mori landed on the Pit Stop in record time, with both Stuart and Glennon and Chelsea and Jamus serving time penalties before leaving Heath and Toni to land in last place.
Thankfully, it was a non-elimination leg of The Race leaving the pair safe to fight another day.
Tomorrow night, teams to keep a cool head and have fast feet as Colombia Week continues.
Yes it does, some consistency would be good instead of making it seem like producers make up the rules as they go along. It makes the show look very unprofessional.
What @sav001 said. Honestly it baffles me that people are okay with it.
Not to mention look at the optics. They seemingly only fucked around with the time penalties to create some pathetic drama, sympathy and suspense at the expense of a woman dying of cancer who was puking up her guts non stop. It was tacky and grubby. The producers knew it was a non elimination, so why couldn’t they keep the time penalties the same anyway. It wouldn’t have made a difference but kept the integrity of the game intact and quashed the cries of rigging and favouritism.
If they can make massive rules up now and arbitrarily change them mid legs, what else are the producers capable of?
With so many covid cases amongst the teams continuing to travel around the world when so many are infected just feels very socially unresponsible - they’ve clearly prioritised the need to film the show above all else. A time buffer, rather than additional teams, may have been better - factor in to filming you may have to stop filming for 7-10 days once or twice along the way.
If there is another season next year, 10 needs to change the format to be similar to the US version, 11 teams max, 11 or 12 legs in total, a maximum of one or two legs in the same country. I can’t understand why 10 can’t go back to the format it used when the show returned in late 2019, the only problem with the first season 10 showed was it didn’t visit enough countries, but it aired twice a week over six weeks & viewership was quite reasonable.
Can’t help but think The Masked Singer, Hunted and The Amazing Race would have all benefited from airing weekly over 2-3 months rather than each stripped across 3-4 weeks (or longer in the case of TAR)
Stuart And Glennon From Northern Territory. Eliminated On The Amazing Race Australia.
The tables have turned in Cartagena, Colombia as Hubbies Pako and Mori take off in first place. But not for long.
Angel and Frankie arrived at the first Challenge a step ahead to make traditional corn cakes for the local kids.
But Chelsea and Jamus fell victim to not reading their clue again and decided to feed the kids along the way to their final destination, ultimately being sent back to make more corn cakes when their plate was short four.
Heath and Toni smashed the cooking challenge and set off to sell some fruit.
Begging English speaking tourists to purchase the amount they needed to grab their next clue, they headed off to shimmy and shake through a salsa routine.
Finding rhythm with their four left feet, the pair then raced off to find Beau at the Pit Stop.
With teams needing to navigate a marked tunnel to their final destination, it was Pako and Mori who arrived first with Stuart and Glennon struggling with their salsa and getting eliminated from The Race.
Sunday night, teams race around the Caribbean with a race favourite eliminated.
Flick and Gabby From Victoria. Eliminated From The Amazing Race Australia.
On tonight’s episode of The Amazing Race, five teams travelled from Cartagena to Belize City. Thanks to the curveball that is Covid, Frankie had to start the race alone after Covid flight delays forced Angel to drive over 500km to catch up.
For the first challenge, teams had to fill a jar with cashews. But because this ain’t no Coles scoop and weigh, teams needed to start a fire, roast the cashews and gently break the shell to reveal the nut inside. Frankie completed the challenge alone, but still managed to get ahead of Chelsea and Jamus who finished the challenge in the dark.
A Rum Factory was the site for tonight’s Roadblock, but this was no drinking session, with one team member needing to clean 36 empty bottles. Heath thought he’d smashed the challenge, but got an instant hangover when he realised he failed to remove the small expiration date on the bottle.
At Belize Zoo, teams selected a tapir’s poo pen to clean. The stinky, messy challenge had a time limit: as long as it took for the tapir to finish its breakfast, because after that, these animals get grumpy. Tell you who wasn’t grumpy after this challenge…Frankie and Angel who were back together again and back in first place.
For the Detour, teams chose between eating 25 boiling hot pies or learning to play Waltzing Matilda on steel drums. Chelsea and Jamus had no problems skipping dinner that night after having to eat 50% more pies for not keeping a lid on it.
At the Pitstop, Chelsea and Jamus took out their first win. Sadly Flick and Gabby hit the mat in last place, only 25 seconds behind
It seems a bit unfair but in any season a strong team can be eliminated early depending on the challenges and their skills.
What’s the solution? Should teams be kicked out for contracting Covid? It was always going to be a risk. We just have to accept that this season is different.
Let’s see what happens in future seasons of other versions. They may be forced to do the same.
One of the detour tasks involved beating a steel drum, similar to the one from the US version but in another country, but it didn’t make sense. Since teams were in a Carribbean country, they should have been learning a local song, not Waltzing Matilda.
But this way, you’re familiar with the tune and you know when they’ve hit an obvious bung note. If they were playing a local song, which we’re not familiar with, we wouldn’t know if it was a bad note or not. This was a difficult enough challenge with a familiar song. Imagine if they were trying to play a completely unfamiliar song.
