And add to that the fucking stupid way ten have promoted every episode. We know without watching who was u turned or something happened to put a team back. Poor effort all around.
There is another article with the boys at news.com.au
https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/reality-tv/amazing-race-favourites-tom-and-tyler-still-smarting-over-brutal-exit/news-story/dd6c1a9831ba2316ba515a8a1074d079
I hated that the producers did the u turn that way too, but I was turned off Tom& Tyler by the end. Bit sore loserish. Of course they were going to be u turned. It’s a game, their competitors are competitors. perhaps I watch too much survivor, but there is never an expectation that your allies are going to carry you all the way to the finish line. And they have to take some responsibility for coming 4th after not doing the gold leafing fast enough Despite a head start over jasmine and Jerome.
I think they were more angry that Jasmine and Jerome lied to them when they practically helped carry them to the final 4.
Seems a lot of people on social media are thinking that Tom and Tyler are in the wrong for being upset. I think they’d feel differently if they saw how U-turns were done overseas.
There are more that are angry with the way things went down and a lot of people saying they won’t be watching the finale. From what I have seen it’s only a few people saying Tom and Tyler are sore losers. As if anyone would be calm in going out that way after winning 8 out of 10 legs. If this was a proper race Tom and Tyler would have been hours if not days in front. Not sure why Ten felt the need to bunch all the teams together.
They essentially eliminated the advantage of coming in first to the mat.
Also in the US version the teams have the ability to U-turn teams behind them, but in a lot of cases they choose not to do so. In our version the teams were told they had to U-turn another team.
Plus in the US these days it’s usually double U-turns… which seem so much more fair. Rather than just one team having to complete two tasks making it two opens up the race more. There has only ever been one U-turn “vote” in 31 seasons in the US. This season we got it twice and in the penultimate leg. It’s just so wtong.
Most comments on social media I’ve read people seem unimpressed with how this U-turn worked too. Secret voting on a plane just reaks producer interference and clearly they wanted the top team out to try and make it a more even finale. It just seems so wrong. I’m glad the boys havnt backed down over this… they have every right to be mad.
It was strange, but at the same time, they were lucky they were in first place when it happened. They very nearly managed to still make the top three - it was just that last task that cost them in the end.
It’s clear that the producers deliberately did this to get Tom and Tyler out and have a more exciting finale. Even Ten’s ads for the final allude to this ‘Now that the boys are out it’s anybody’s race’. It just feels like too much producer manipulation just like in our Survivor.
I recall Beau saying on Studio 10 last month that they “pulled a few strings and changed the format when we weren’t meant too” to keep Rowah and Amani from being eliminated on the third leg. This season reeks of producer intervention.
Lucky? With how U turns are meant to work you would not be able to get U-turned if you were in first place.
Yep. I couldn’t believe it when Beau admitted to that.
You didn’t listen to that interview properly. Beau just doesn’t know how to articulate things.
It was supposed to be a joke but then just made it suss. If people think producers are not manipulating the show in overseas editions then they’re kidding themselves. They’re just better at covering it up.
They also have a better host that doesn’t say shit that probably isn’t exactly correct.
Do you watch the US version? Obviously things happen and certain tasks or legs can favour diff teams but tell me a time they did something this blatantly obvious? I have watched all 31 seasons and never seen a “secret U-turns vote” that occured behind the scenes (i.e. cos they made it up last minute). The US have only ever once had a U-turn “vote” and it was with around 7 or 8 teams remaining and the teams had to vote in front of each other . The vote actually related to them being in a Swiss election or something too so it was planned and is why they did it (plus I doubt they’ll ever do it again yet we had it at twice and at F4 in our version ). Usually with U-turns as well they have double U-turns to make it more fair so it’s two teams that complete both tasks rather than creating something where here just 1 team gets dogged at the F4. So I do think our version is much much more unbalanced and unfair in these scenarios.
Anyway I should be glad Tom and Tyler are gone as it increases chances of my friend Joey winning but I still just don’t think it’s fair. Onto the finale now… really hope that Viv and Joey win this!!!
He truly is awful.
Not the right format for him at all.
They need to replace him next year.
Also this is the defintion of a U-turn on 10s website:
I’m of two minds with last nights episode.
On one hand … I hated the footy guys. I’m glad they are gone and it shows their character that they made other teams (especially J&J) feel bad for U-Turning them. I was rolling my eyes when they were going on their BS of “we could have been in the final 3 together” and “you broke an alliance”.
On the other hand … a U-Turn (and a U-Turn vote) this late in the game is unprecedented. So it does feel like a poorly designed leg. Anyone U-Turned at this stage has little opportunity to make up time.
T&T shouldn’t be petty towards other teams (the game gave them an opportunity, and they took it), but should be upset at production for poor game design.
I don’t hate U-Turn votes (#Drama) and they are a more prevalent part of the game in other versions. I think Israeli TAR has a U-Turn Vote every leg & even one of the earlier TARAu seasons had a U-Turn vote.
However, from this point forward, there should be no U-Turns from Final 4.
I missed part when Beau was talking about the U-turn on this leg. I gather it was all done on the plane and nothing was filmed, but did he say anything about it being compulsory to vote?
I think the boys understood that it’s part of the game but it really came across as an afterthought rather than something that had been planned from the beginning. And while the boys had won the most legs, the newlyweds are actually the strongest team at the moment, especially since they’d got through after the previous U-turn. That said, even if I was in an alliance with the boys, I think I’d still feel guilty if I’d U-turned the newlyweds a second time.
