Popyrin is 2 sets down now although looking promising in the third set.

Not all the time.
Pat Rafter, Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Stosur beat established Americans on their way to winning the US Open in 1998, 2001 and 2011 respectively.
In both Rafter and Hewitt’s cases, they beat Pete Sampras (the latter doing so in the final) while Stosur overcame the legendary Serena Williams in straights in the 2011 final.

That doesn’t mean that it’s not tough playing a primetime match against the home crowd. It’s not a make-or-break factor but it definitely adds to the dynamic of the match. Popyrin built a lot of momentum with the crowd against Djokovic which would have really pushed hum. This time a lot of support was going to the other side and blocking that out would be something that would get better with experience.

De Minaur gets win against Thompson in four sets
Alex de Minaur will play Jack Draper in the men’s quarter-finals after beating fellow countryman Jordan Thompson 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in just under three hours.
It wasn’t smooth finish to the night, with de Minaur finding his seventh double fault in the final game of the match, but the world No. 10 found an ace before drawing an error from Thompson to secure victory.

It’s a shame,maybe he’s still affected by the hip injury that forced him out of Wimbledon 
It must be the 1st time for years that there’s been an American player in both men’s and women’s singles finals of the US Open,Jess Pegula and Taylor Fritz.Great for the local crowd
