Wimbledon is following Australian Open and US Open by abolishing line judges.
I think this’ll mean the end of the player challenge system wherein they could contest/dispute any incorrect calls, at all the Majors.
This was one of my favourite things about watching tennis, seeing where the ball eventually landed and seeing how close it was to being in or out.
I’ve found it does make matches more punchy and keep pace though, as exciting as a challenge could be, they were often pointless and time wasting, stopping rally momentum and match vibe
Finally!
Surprised to see the removal of lines-people from Wimbledon. They are usually set in “tradition”. I still prefer to have lines-people in all major tournaments. And have 3 challenges per match. It barely wasted any time.
Please, French Open, don’t follow suit.
But it meant incorrect calls could be made. Now the players know it’s correct and can’t argue.
I get that it eliminates an incorrect call. But it “adds to the entertainment” of a challenge.
I’m nothing more of just “old fashioned” and don’t like change. lol.

The seven winning teams will join a host nation in the finals in November, which will be played at one venue. Bidding processes for the hosts of next year’s finals are already underway, with this year’s tournament to take place in Malaga, Spain.
Hewitt has long advocated for the tournament to go back to its roots and home-and-away ties all the way through, including the finals, but said the announcement came with plenty of “smoke and mirrors”.
