Let’s hope so. If he doesn’t want to get vaccinated, then he can go elsewhere. He isn’t any more special than anyone else.
People had a right to be sceptical over COVID-19 and the suspicious circumstances of how it spread then got out of China. People also had a right to be sceptical over vested interests who have the world over the coals and would be making massive amounts of money out of this situation like Pfizer and AstraZeneca.
While the world awaits the Federal Government’s decision on Djokovic, the Victorian Government announced today that ticket sales for the Australian Open would be kept at 50%, where a session has not already sold to that level. It said all tickets already sold would be honoured and there would be no changes to ground pass access.
Geez if it were up to you there would probably be no crowds at all. We are taking a balanced approach here to which is a mostly outdoor event. I think reducing capacity limits (even if only minimally in some instances) is the right move and it’s also fair to honor existing ticket holders (over people who have not purchased tickets yet). If people don’t feel comfortable in crowds at the moment then they should have every right to not attend and receive a refund too.
AO do sell a lot of tickets last minute particularly to day sessions. So I doubt that many sessions (at least until the quarter or semi-finals and finals) would be anywhere close to sold out and halting sales now will mean very few times there are largely packed stadiums. 50% capacity is pretty close to what they got on day 1 last year.
We also don’t have the finer details of what this means for the tournament yet - there is potentially the possibility that some tickets may be shifted to other arenas. It’s also likely that purchased seating positions may shift around a bit to allow more spacing.
To me the “riskiest” ticket holders are day passes - they are the ones constantly roaming the ground without a permanent seat. Whereas I have Margaret Court Arena and Rod Laver Arena tickets on different days where we will spend most of our time in the same spot.
Can you imagine should he enter the finals or final, and he is deported before it started. Expect some international media to start arriving on our shores before this really starts to get interesting.
The Australian Open draw has been made. As it stands, Djokovic will face fellow Serb and world No.78 Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round, while women’s defending champion Naomi Osaka will play against world No. 53 Camila Osorio from Colombia.
Holy shit they’ve actually done it? Appeal to made I’d say, and the hearing will take place after the AO, and he will be out of the country with a trophy by then.
You’d like to think he’d leave. These powers are discretionary and can be used at any time. That’s the law. Might be unfair but that’s the way it is. Surely there’s recourse but at the end the decision stands. But they’ll kick the can down the road to play the tournament.
He should be held under arrest pending any appeals so he can’t leave to play the tournament.
