Djokovic admits to an error of judgment in attending an interview after receiving a positive COVID result.
And says a mistake on his immigration form about previous travel before arriving in Australia was “human error” and “not deliberate” describing it as an administrative mistake.
Immigration Minister Alex Hawke’s office has said not to expect a decision on whether to cancel Djokovic’s visa today.
It always has been - and not just for covid vaccinations, but vaccinations in general.
It’s also selfish - while he might be able to recover, others who he may come in contact with may not, vaccinations are not just about helping protect an individual, it’s also about helping protect the wider community.
Not to mention, whether he likes it or not, he’s a role model whose position on vaccinations can have considerable sway with people deciding whether to be vaccinated themselves or not.
Its also outside the window for applying for an exemption for the purpose he was coming to Australia for (which expired on December 10th)
Sorry this is BS. It’s not selfish to prioritize your own health over “the wider community” at all. One is allowed to consider implications of their own Health ahead of “the wider community” Although very small, there is risk from vaccination. It’s not up to me to decide how much of that risk is comfortable to others who know their own situation innately better than me.
In addition, The vaccines don’t stop you catching covid or spreading it. As evidenced in Australia right now. Indeed some data pools confirm infection rates are higher in vaccinated people than unvaccinated. The vaccinated brought this into Australia.
Any argument that vaccines stop or prevent infecting others has be blown apart by Omicron.
The only argument there is science behind: is that an unvaccinated person posees a “risk” by being more likely to take a valuable hospital bed from the system. However Someone like Novak has done far more to “protect the wider community” and not take a hospital bed by devoting his entire life to health
An unvaccinated person who has made healthy life choices to keep their body fit, strong and healthy to fight disease has done more in their life to ease the burden on the hospital system than the average person who Eats a a questionable diet, consumes alcohol, smokes. Does a questionable amount of exercise carries a questionable amount of weight and gets a questionable amount of rest for their body weekly - but got the jab.
Society needs to stop shaming healthy people who pose no more - and indeed possibly less risk to the system - than the majority of others.
Exactly, thats what I think should emphaized alot. But the media tend and people who are supportive of the vaccine have sold this idea on. Sure its going to boost your immune, but you can still catch it and have mild symptoms relieved by the vaccine.
I wish people would understand that and especially why I was hesistant for so long of getting any of the vaccines were on offer. I do know that when people question that, there is judgementality too it, sometimes its selfish and sometimes it is not. But its up to the indivudal to decide , of course they need to be informed the ramifications if they chose not to be vaccinated. They can’t not eat one pie and espect to have the whole pie though.
Its usually right wing media organisation such as CNN, Sky news UK, ABC, NBC, CBS News who spread the fear hence why every country has its issues with vaccinations.
No he just blantly tried to circumvent the rules and he go tcaught in doing it. You cannot be defending that?
I think the media has a lot to do with this than people just shaming people in general. Fear-mongering has truly run rampant. People who constantly read unproven studies or watch right-wing propaganda have more to fear than healthy people because they believe everything that is fed to them. Shame on them.
Whether legally he is allowed to be in the country is still to be determined. I still can’t work out if his infection is reason for exemption. The ATAGI website seems to indicate it is
If he is charged for something unrelated to the initial ruling, doesn’t that mean he is back in detention? Hopefully that can happen for the start of the tournament and force him to pull out.
