Good coverage so far, a lot of emphasis on the colour etc, as well as young-skewing, picture perfect weather so far too, love the panoramic shots looks so modern and stunning.

McGuire and Felgate to their credit are real assets, would not be surprised to see Nine use the former (which I believe he already let slip on air - not sure if he was part joking or guessing though) and pick up the latter with his wife already within Nine’s ranks now too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see James Bracey still used though, at least Melb Cup day, as WWOS main anchor across the board now. KP at TVB suggests an announcement is imminent.

A report I saw somewhere is that the VRC and TAB will produce the coverage and Nine will just air it. Not sure if this is correct. I would find it very strange if that’s what they do.

Maybe the actual race, but TAB wouldn’t be caring about the rest of the day while that’s what Nine (or 10 or 7) need to promote stuff.

This is basically what happens now. Tab and the race callers do a continuous call at the tracks then Sky or whoever is doing the broadcast just cut into the feed when the race is about to start.

I do like the “split screen” arrangement 10 had for the ads just before the Cup race, so you didn’t feel like you were missing out on anything.

It would be interesting to know how many people missed watching the race because they mistakenly thought it was on 7.

10 have done a good job a presenting a slick premium broadcast. They really don’t skimp on these big events. Their efforts should be more rewarded when they bid for rights.

If it was, too many people would have been baffled by the sight of Eddie McGuire being on Channel 7, that they would have still missed / not noticed the race!

10 always do quality sports broadcasts. Not enough credit is given to 10

It probably doesn’t help that despite consistently high-quality output, Ten’s management makes some really dud decisions around sport.

They should be a major player in the market - but now have very little (and some of that is of questionable value)

Rightly so, there’s often no room for such sentimentality when it comes to rights auctions.

Even after all these years, the Channel 10 brand, especially in news and sports, has sadly never recovered from the Lachlan Murdoch years. The bloke made Bob Shanks look like a visionary genius by comparison.
