The Melbourne Cup race topped Tuesday viewing with just over 1.1 metro viewers and 922,000 for the Presentations that followed. The numbers are up on the 2022 race that had 1.02 m and 882,000.
As per usual the rating number doesn’t reflect the true number watching as it only estimates viewers watching at home in metro area on linear TV.
The result provided a better than usual lead in to prime time for 10 where the latest season of The Masked Singer concluded. The Grand Final averaged 511,000 to easily win its timeslot rising to 594,000 for The Final Reveal. However, that is the lowest final episode liner result for the franchise and compares to 575,000 and 713,000 the previous year.
Overall, Nine won the night, helped by late night cricket on the main channel after switching from 9Gem earlier in the night. It was Nine’s best Tuesday share since June and the midyear Ashes. Second-placed Seven posted its lowest Tuesday share since October last year with the network’s main channel ranked third for the night. 10’s share was its best Tuesday for this survey period while ABC dropped to an eight-week low while SBS was steady.
The Cup’s multiple top 20 entries pushed many shows lower in the rankings than usual. My Mum Your Dad’s fourth episode was on par with Monday’s result while the second episode of Big Brother was down 60,000 from debut, a very troubling result.
Later, The Cheap Seats was up slightly week-on-week while Old People’s Home For Teenagers finished its season on par with this year’s results while Endgame on Seven was uncompetitive.
At breakfast, it was another win for Today; it wasn’t Seven’s day yesterday.
