Ten (Southern Cross) -- SCA selling to Ten

No but do SCA own stations in Bendigo and Gippsland? Because I remember seeing them being branded the southern cross network in regional Victoria

not to mention the low frame rate as well

Has anything been mention about the expiring affiliation agreement

I haven’t heard anything. They will probably extend the agreement by another 6 months

Well, what choice do they have?

SCA has announced that it has reached a conditional new regional television affiliation with 10 for Southern NSW, Regional VIC & Regional QLD. The proposed extension will be for an indefinite period.

what does an indefinite period mean?

There are no other options and with it unlikely to change any time soon, it will be this way for the forceeable future

It means it’s going to be effective for a long time with no known end date

It’s not like 10 and SCA have any other options

Exactly, SCA have been tying their end dates to other networks end of contracts, now there aren’t any left, they are making this one “indefinite”.

But what dates will MediaSpy members be able to put into their calendars now? Will be interesting to see though how it all goes into the future, with purchase of the stations seeming unlikely although depending on how the ARN and SCA deal goes and any flow ons from that.
I wonder how this works if the affiliation rates ever change in the future too - although at 50% or whatever they’re at now they probably won’t change if it’s too difficult to achieve.

Must be getting to the stage where SCA is charging TEN to carry TEN content for the sake of national buys? SCA surely is paying next to nothing for TEN content now?

Maybe SCA doesn’t want to air nine network programs again with the exception of broken hill and regional SA markets?

Can’t imagine they don’t want to considering their 5 years with the Nine affiliation were quite successful for them.

SCA doesnt want to be in the television business, period.

They say that for a long time but why is SCA still involved in the TV industry? Yeah they still have to be involved with TDT, DDT and CDT as joint ventures

because they can’t find anyone to buy their TV assets

Well, not for the inflated prices they are expecting anyway.

There’s not much value in them bothering to sell it if they won’t make a decent enough return over just sitting on it.

The structure of the affiliation agreements as a share of ad revenue means they have a good floor on how much of a loss they can make on their Ten affiliates - and stuff like the ad channels and Sky, combined with the actually successful Seven affiliates, means they probably break even at least in general in their TV division - so don’t need to rush a sale for the sake of it.
