Ten (Southern Cross) -- SCA selling to Ten

I’m betting there is some other benefit(s) too - maybe a vehicle for tax writedowns or something. The value of the portfolio isn’t going to go up in any dramatic way and its clear that there is a decent gap between their expectation and the market’s view of the value of the licences.

Just saw a new SCA-produced 10 ident that featured all four Network 10 channels (10, 10 Bold, 10 Peach and Nickelodeon in that order)

Not sure how long it’s been running for but I’ve seen it on TDT in Tasmania the past few nights but wasn’t sure how new it was as we haven’t been watching the local channels much for the last couple of weeks. Will try and get a cap sometime if I can.

They forgot to mention Sky News Regional, Gecko and SBN!

They didn’t “forget”. Those are not “10” properties as such but are 3rd party channels.

Also not available in all areas where that is being shown - including Tasmania or they are on the 7 mux.

Yet Peach still show drama programs like Neighbours.

I believe this is an artefact of the “good old days” (the Channel Eleven era). The channel (in its current state) clearly gets more views from its sitcom reruns, hence the recent change to “10 Peach Comedy”.

Personally I find the ratings a hoot!

Noted that you.tv is now on Channel 58 via SCA10 in H.264…
8 channels now jammed onto the 1 Digital Stream.

Anyone got a capture of the bitrates since this new channel was added?

Southern Cross have announced this morning that they are in “active negotiations with several parties” to sell their tv assets, with movement expected in the next few months. This would also make it easier for ARN to make their next move for the rest of the company.

Much more likely to see a result here I think.

Boat anchors whoever buys them, especially the SCA10 stations.

If Paramount and Seven can negotiate the price down low enough, it’s not an unreasonable prospect for them. Big if on the price though.

The continued fall in revenue and their onerous 3rd party contracts for outsourced transmission and playout services don’t make them attractive for anyone long term, even at a knock down price.
